The Overnight Warming Centre Co-ordinator (OWCC) is responsible for the
coordination of the service delivery of the day-to-day operations of The OWC. They will lead the Attendant CREW in providing support to guests accessing the OWC in the town of Bradford which is operated by The Bradford Out of The Cold Cafe (OOCC) in conjunction with non-profit partners.
The OWC Centre will operate nightly from 8 PM to 9 AM. The OWC operates as a life saving measure for the purpose of providing shelter to marginalized populations who are experiencing homelessness and may also live with challenges related to substance use, mental health, physical and/or cognitive disabilities and other issues related to poverty and marginalization.
The OWCC role schedules attendants for each shift to ensure safe supervision.
The OWCC is also responsible for working with the Resource Coordinator to ensure attendants are properly trained in filling out HIFIS consents/forms for new guests.
This is a seasonal position from December 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026.
The OWCC reports to the Executive Director and communicates regularly with the Resource Coordinator and works in partnership with community service providers (S.H.I.F.T., CONTACT Community Services, and South Simcoe Emergency 911 Services including Police, Fire, and Ambulance & 211).
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Schedules OWC Attendants for each shift to ensure safe supervision
Coordinates opening the OWC nightly
Serves as the point person for OWCAs 3-4 shifts/week.
Keep track of OWC Attendant shifts and report payroll to accounting department every two weeks
Responsible for assisting the Resource Coordinator in maintaining accurate guest records in HIFIS
Respects strict code of confidentiality regarding guests and fellow staff members at all times.
Represents the organization professionally at all times.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Post-secondary education, or experience in the social service industry or lived
experience & WOW Living basic training.
Related experience working with vulnerable populations
First Aid Level 1/CPR considered an asset.
Additional training and qualifications in safe talk, mental health first aid, and other
related qualifications considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing
assignments efficiently.
Possess excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to work
with minimum supervision.
Working knowledge of the community and social service agencies and programs in the
area.
Understanding of and commitment to individuals experiencing homelessness who may
also suffer from issues related to substance use, mental health, physical and/or
cognitive disabilities and other issues related to poverty and marginalization.
Conflict and de-escalation skills especially in unpredictable, volatile, and emergency
situations including situations in which mental health and addiction are factors.
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to exercise excellent judgment and to do so independently when required.
Strong Emotional Intelligence.
Ability to actively listen.
Willing and able to enforce policies, procedure and rules in a firm and compassionate
manner.
Knowledge of homelessness related agencies, services and resources or experience
working with marginalized populations is considered an asset.
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Police Check.
Other duties as assigned.
