The Opportunity





We are currently looking for self-directed, engaging, empathetic Full Time Overnight Support Worker (Awake) to join our growing team. Reporting to Program Coordinator, the Overnight Support Worker monitors and attends to the well-being and safety of all persons residing in specialized home support services during the night. Maintains a supportive, non-judgmental, inclusive, comfortable, clean and safe living environment. The program, located in Langley, is a 24-hour emergency receiving home for youth between the ages of 12 to 19 who are in need of short-term stabilization.



Overnight Support Workers work with some of the most vulnerable and complex youth in the care of, or on a Youth Agreement with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in meeting youth where they're at, recognition of the ongoing influence of trauma and disconnection on the youth served and building on youth's strengths and passions to create meaning. Delivery of these services must be provided with an understanding of the ongoing effects of trauma, isolation and vulnerability.

HOURS OF WORK: 4 Days ON 4 Days OFF Rotating Schedule

Night shift from 10:45 PM to 7:45 AM

SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 10: $26.83 - $29.76 hourly

BENEFITS: Extended Health, Dental, Group RSP/TFSA

VACATION: As per ESS policy

ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

Some Key Responsibilities

Ensures that the living environment for program participants is trauma informed, inclusive, comfortable, non-judgmental and reflective of cultural practices. Monitors program participants and attends to any personal health or emotional needs that arise throughout the night. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures including proper notifications (supervisor, MCFD, other professionals etc.). Ensures home environment is safe. Ensuring cupboards containing biohazardous materials, medications, sharps or cleaners are secured and accounted for. May be required to complete room, bag or personnel checks to ensure safety of youth, staff and home environment. Records, reports and responds to potential health and safety risks within home. Completes and reports sharps counts once per shift. Performs housekeeping duties in support of health and safety regulations. This may include but is not limited to vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, sanitizing, cleaning and laundry. Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor. Engages with participants in the development of their individualized service plan including intake, assessment, goal setting, progress and transition planning. Supports and advocates for program participants personal needs and goals by providing supportive advice and access to resources. Recognizes and supports program participants with emotional dysregulation providing supportive conversations, de-escalation and encouraging the use of healthy coping mechanisms. Prepares and supports program participants in healthy living practices such as daily hygiene, and breakfast preparation. Monitors program participant's medications in accordance with established policy and training. Ensures that logbooks and other documentation such as case notes and incident reports are legible and completed as per program expectations. Completes notifications for incidents as needed (AWOL/Missing Person's reports) etc. Secures the building by performing perimeter checks, arming alarms, locking doors and windows. Maintains household supply levels by checking and restocking supplies such as groceries, personal care, emergency, and housekeeping supplies. Ensures proper notification for purchasing items.

1. Education and Knowledge

Grade 12 Current knowledge of issues and resources to support participants Primary source credential verification

2. Training and Experience

Six (6) months recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Current First Aid Food Safety certificate


3. Skills and Abilities

Strong verbal communication, de-escalation and interpersonal skills. Documentation is clear, professional and completed in a timely manner. Great problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills in potentially high stress situations. Ability to adapt to a changing environment. Demonstrates flexibility, resourcefulness and possess good time management skills. Ability to function as an independent self-starter with limited "on-site" supervision. Effective listening skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making. Must possess a working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word/Excel/Teams)


4. Other Information

Police Information check and MCFD background clearance. Possession of a valid BC Class 5 Drivers' license, access to a reliable vehicle with business insurance is considered an asset (mileage paid for work use).
