JOB SUMMARY



We are seeking a compassionate, diplomatic, and adaptable individual to join our team as an Outreach and Peer Support Worker, contributing to a new and innovative program grounded in the values of integrity, compassion, and cultural humility. The Outreach and Peer Support Worker empowers individuals by sharing lived experience, offering mentorship, advocating for client needs, and promoting an integrated, harm reduction-oriented approach to care. Support may include connection to cultural activities, external organizations, and community agencies that assist clients in navigating health, recovery, and social systems. Guided by a harm reduction model, the Outreach and Peer Support Worker walks alongside clients as they pursue self-identified goals related to after-care, cultural reconnection, healing, and community integration--while advocating for equitable access and client rights as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Draw upon your own lived experience with addiction, mental illness, and recovery to authentically inspire hope in clients. Share your recovery story, offer mentorship and support, advocate for client needs, and contribute to a recovery-oriented treatment environment.

Collaborate with the Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator to support the development and implementation of individualized client case plans.

Assist clients with attending appointments, liaise with Tsuut'ina Nation programs and community services, and work collaboratively with the wrap-around support team.

Utilize culturally informed, strength-based strategies to support clients on their healing journeys.

Demonstrate knowledge of holistic addiction models, including the stages of change, harm reduction principles, cultural pillars of healing, and the use of artistic or traditional medicine.

Provide peer support that compliments the work of a multidisciplinary harm reduction team offering treatment, rehabilitation, and mental health services.

Conduct regular home visits and actively involve clients in goal setting, planning, and decision-making processes.

Support clients in securing basic needs, including housing, food, clothing, financial assistance, transportation, and social connection.

Provide education and coaching on daily living skills, such as attending appointments, budgeting, job searching, and grocery shopping.

Observe and report changes in client behavior, engagement, and functioning to the interdisciplinary team.

Perform other duties as assigned, including documentation and reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:



Desired Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

o High School Diploma or GED, with the following certifications:

ASIST Training, First Aid Mental Health, First Aid and CPR certification, Naloxone Certification.

o Two (2) years of related volunteer and/or work experience with diverse, and marginalized populations with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness, and social services.

o Lived experience with addictions, homelessness, and mental health illness.

o Experience navigating paths to healing and working with clients using culturally informed strategies.

o Knowledge of an Indigenous language and culture, and systemic issues such as poverty, addiction, and stigma.

o Knowledge and experience of the principles and practice of harm reduction.

o Self-motivated.

o Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

o Ability to establish workload priorities, adjust to new or unexpected events, problem-solve, and deal effectively with conflict situations.

General Employment Requirements:

o Valid Driver's License, and reliable transportation.

o Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.

o Oath of confidentiality.
