Please note that this position is based on available workload.
What you'll doWe are looking for a librarian who is a creative teacher, provides excellent research help, and can connect effectively with students both in-person and online. Our team is committed to creating engaging, high-impact classroom experiences which include lesson planning, outcomes-based design, active learning techniques, and assessment. The position will include teaching library classes for English 100 and in the Social Sciences liaison area.This librarian will also coordinate our Research Help Desk service and will be a part of our Research Help Desk team, providing both online and in-person reference services to CapU students across the disciplines and AskAway chat to students across British Columbia and the Yukon. Our Research Help Desk model prioritizes student learning during each interaction. You can read more about our service philosophy on our publicly available .The librarian in this role leads the development of co-curricular information literacy and student success initiatives within the Library. This is a community-engaged and collaborative role that involves working with a variety of campus partners, other librarians, and Library staff to create inclusive and engaging events and learning opportunities for students, including those who are traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education. This librarian also coordinates the Library's communication channels, including the student and employee newsletters, social media, and physical and digital signage in the Library space.The successful candidate will be part of a team of ten faculty librarians that operates within a collegial management model. We consider Truth and Reconciliation and equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility critical priorities in our work with students, faculty, community, and prospective colleagues. We are committed to developing pedagogically sound programs and resources and using data and feedback to improve our practices. This librarian will need to collaborate closely in an in-person and online environment with the team, including librarian colleagues, the University Librarian, Library staff, and partners across campus.This is a regular, full-time position based on available workload. Benefits include vacation days (42 days annually, prorated for the sections worked), and professional development days (37 hours per section worked, approximately 25 hours per month of full-time work). Experience, competencies & qualificationsRequired Qualifications

  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience teaching in an active-learning post-secondary environment, or equivalent in a relevant teaching environment
  • Experience providing reference services for library users
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, sustain, and grow collaborative relationships with a variety of individuals and groups across an organization
  • Demonstrated engagement in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in libraries or other physical/virtual spaces
  • Demonstrated engagement in Truth and Reconciliation in libraries or other physical/virtual spaces
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Completion of an Instructional Skills Workshop
  • Reference or teaching experience in the program areas in Social Sciences
