JOB POSTING Outreach and Communications Manager The St\xc3\xb3:l\xc5\x8d Xwexw\xc3\xadlmexw Government (SXG) is looking for a Communications and Outreach Manager to lead a dynamic team while we continue on our path to self-government. Our Government unites six First Nations in the upper Fraser Valley: \xc3\x81thelets (Aitchelitz), Leq\xe2\x80\x99\xc3\xa1:mel (Lakahahmen), Sq\xe2\x80\x99ew\xc3\xa1:lxw (Skawahlook)\xe2\x80\x8b, Sq\xe2\x80\x99ewq\xc3\xa9yl (Skowkale), Ch\xe2\x80\x99iy\xc3\xa1qtel (Tzeachten), and Yeqwyeqw\xc3\xad:ws (Yakweakwioose). The ideal candidate has the big picture in mind, while collaborating with and managing team members who are working on a variety of engagement campaigns, multimedia products and general office administration in a variety of locations within St\xc3\xb3:l\xc5\x8d Xwexw\xc3\xadlmexw Territory. The Communications and Outreach Manager reports to the Managing Director of the SXG. Job Duties

  • Supervise all Outreach staff and contractors
  • Lead in developing, implementing and measuring external communication strategies for the SXG that meet organizational mission and vision statements.
  • Develop, manage and report on related budgets.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies and report results back to the Managing Director.
  • Oversee the organization\xe2\x80\x99s brand to ensure internal and external stakeholders have clarity around how to use the visual assets of the SXG.
  • Understand audiences and target markets in our communities aiming to broaden the appeal of SXG\xe2\x80\x99s brand and helping to ensure consistent and cohesive messaging that speaks to the community at large.
  • Oversee the Multimedia Strategist in the creation of written and interactive multimedia materials including brochures, handouts, booklets, Q&A, presentations, website, social media posts, videos, photographs, direct mail and surveys.
  • Oversee the Community Engagement Coordinator in their organization of events and engagement activities.
  • Oversee the Outreach Administrative Assistant
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in a timely manner to ensure material is available for publications, presentations and training.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary teams to develop and deliver communications products to key audiences.
  • Serve as senior editor and review all engagement materials to ensure communication is accurate, relevant and consistent with SXG\'s brand and overall organizational messaging and positions.
  • Coordinate the big picture within the Outreach and Communications team to ensure a consistent message and decrease any overlap in duties.
  • Build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to proactively pitch SXG stories through traditional media and social media outlets as appropriate.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of media programs and communicate results back to SXG Managing Director.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and coaching in order to further develop the skills and abilities of the team.
  • Continually research, monitor and evaluate usability and feasibility of new and emerging trends, techniques and technologies.
  • Plan and coordinate training in communications practices for staff and leadership.
  • Present to the Managing Director as required, suggesting new directions and/or changes in the current direction of SXG\'s communications plans.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.
  • 10 years\' experience working in Communications, Media Relations role or other Public Relations.
  • Management experience required.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, Adobe Products and Desktop publishing.
  • Demonstrated success with Social Media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others.
  • Must possess strong project management skills.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion.
  • Must have the ability to be an influential communications consultant within the organization.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, with a high level of accuracy regarding information. Politically and culturally sensitive
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all levels of employees is critical.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions
  • Travel may be required.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Various working schedule including some nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime as required.

WE BELIEVE IN ST\xc3\x93:L\xc5\x8c The successful candidate will work out of a central Chilliwack office on the St\xc3\xb3:l\xc5\x8d Nation grounds. Some travel and evening hours will be required.
  • Salary: To be based on experience.
  • Type of Position: Full-time with benefits (subject to a three-month probationary period).
  • Schedule: 35 hours per week.
