Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a OSP Fiber Splicer. This role is essential in supporting our operations by ensuring the effective installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication and network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Fiber and Outside plant systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities



Perform fiber optic cable splicing, termination, and testing (single-mode and multi-mode) in aerial, buried, and underground environments. Execute fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, connector installation, and related tasks to industry standards. Read and interpret OSP design prints, schematics, splicing plans, and test results. Conduct fiber characterization, OTDR, OLTS, and power meter testing to verify network performance. Perform mid-sheath access, fiber ring cuts, slack storage, and cable handling according to specifications. Install and maintain enclosures, patch panels, splitters, and other OSP hardware. Document as-built records including splicing diagrams, test results, and redlines for network updates. Follow company safety protocols and provincial/municipal regulations for work in ROWs, manholes, and aerial structures. Respond to emergency restoration calls to troubleshoot and repair fiber network outages. Coordinate with field supervisors, NOC, and other contractors to ensure project timelines and service level agreements are met. Maintain all tools, splicing equipment, and test gear in proper working order.

Experience & Qualifications



Minimum Experience:

2-5 years of hands-on fiber splicing and testing experience (OSP preferred). Proficient with fusion splicing machines, OTDR, OLTS, power meters, and fiber scopes. Knowledge of fiber cable construction, color codes, and splicing best practices. Familiarity with municipal and utility ROW requirements, safety standards, and permitting processes. Experience reading engineering drawings, splice schematics, and interpreting test results. Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license with a clean abstract (bucket truck and/or trailer towing experience an asset). Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a crew. Excellent record-keeping and digital documentation skills (tablets, field software, or ticketing systems). Safety certifications (First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Arrest) preferred. Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for after-hours emergency response.

Assets / Nice-to-Have Skills



Experience with broadband builds under the Universal Broadband Fund (UBF) or similar rural deployments. Knowledge of GPON/FTTH architectures and split ratios. Familiarity with fiber network maintenance for municipal or carrier-grade clients. Ability to supervise or train junior technicians.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $21.70-$40.49 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week

Work Location: In person
