We are hiring an orthodontic assistant for a maternity leave, with the possibility of continued employment. The orthodontic assistant makes the "world go 'round" in the office. They adhere to a high standard of clinical skill and work cooperatively as a member of the team.
Primary Duties
Preparing patients:
Greet patients and families in the reception area and seat them in the clinic
Assess oral hygiene, cooperation, and any appliance breakages and inform the doctor of any concerns
Inform the doctor of any pertinent changes in medical history
Records-taking:
Take orthodontic records including photographs, impressions and/or digital scans, and radiographs
Clinical duties:
Bond appliances, bands, and brackets
Remove appliances, bands, and brackets
Place orthodontic separators
Perform orthodontic adjustments, including wire removal and ligation, as per doctor prescription
Check appliances/retainers and update the doctor on treatment progress
Communicate with the lab regarding fabrication or repair of appliances as per doctor prescription
Assist doctor, or another orthodontic assistant, with orthodontic procedures
Assist the doctor with charting during examinations for new and recall patients
Appropriate note-taking for clinical procedures
Patient contact:
Provide care calls to patients as required
Update patients and parents on treatment progress
Work area, instruments, and equipment:
Prepare the operatory with dental supplies and instruments as required
Clean or "turn over" the operatory between patients
Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment using an autoclave
Maintain and safe and tidy workplace
Qualifications
Level II dental assistant or hygienist
Proof of completion of orthodontic module required
Licensed in Newfoundland and Labrador
Preferably a member of the NLDAA
Technologically inclined
Good communication skills
Punctual

Job Type: Maternity leave coverage, part-time or full time (30-32 hours)

There is potential for continued employment past this term
Wages: $25+/hour, negotiable depending on experience
Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:45pm

Attire: Black scrubs, white closed-toe shoes
Benefits: 50+% coverage of extensive insurance plan after 3 months probation
