IUPAT District Council 17 is seeking a Full-Time Organizing Representative based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to lead unionization efforts in the construction and finishing trades. This important role will focus on empowering non-union workers, promoting safe and fair work environments, and expanding Union representation across Manitoba's construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Build relationships with non-union workers in trades such as industrial painting, residential/commercial painting, drywall finishing, and glazing.
Educate workers on the benefits of Union membership and collective bargaining.
Plan and execute strategic organizing campaigns, adjusting seasonally based on industry cycles.
Conduct research on contractors and construction projects to identify organizing opportunities.
Attend industry events and work sites to recruit members and increase awareness of IUPAT.
Maintain accurate and timely records of organizing efforts using tools like Google Sheets.
Travel regularly to job sites across Manitoba to meet workers and grow Union presence.
Collaborate with the IUPAT team to develop, assess, and adjust organizing strategies.
What We're Looking For:
Finishing trades experience is considered an asset--special consideration will be given to candidates with glazing or drywall finishing experience.
Previous union or construction experience is considered a strong asset.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including one-on-one and group interactions.
Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Familiarity with Manitoba labor laws and the construction industry.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Comfortable using digital tools (e.g., Google Sheets) to track and report organizing activity.
