Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Optician or Student Optician to join our dynamic eye care team. This role is essential in providing comprehensive optical services and exceptional patient care within our optometry practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, an eye for style and a passion for helping patients achieve optimal vision. We welcome both licensed opticians and students pursuing their optician certification.

Your Role

As our Optician, you'll be a vital part of our patient care team, specializing in the technical and service aspects of eye care:

Eyewear Dispensing:

Fit, adjust, and dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses according to prescriptions and patient needs

Frame Selection & Styling:

Provide expert guidance on frame selection based on prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and personal preferences

Lens Consultation:

Educate patients about lens options including progressive lenses, anti-reflective coatings, photochromic lenses, and specialty options. We use a wide range of lenses to meet our patients' needs especially for patient's who have complex neurological issues such as migraine or acquired brain injury.

Precision Measurements:

Take accurate measurements including pupillary distance, segment height, and frame fitting parameters

Eyewear Adjustments & Repairs:

Perform precise adjustments, minor repairs, and maintenance on eyeglasses to ensure optimal fit and comfort

Contact Lens Services:

Assist with contact lens fittings, teach insertion and removal techniques, and provide ongoing patient education

Quality Control:

Inspect incoming eyewear orders for accuracy and quality before dispensing to patients

Insurance & Billing Support:

Process optical insurance claims and explain coverage benefits to patients

Inventory Management:

Maintain frame displays, manage lens inventory, and assist with product ordering

Patient Education:

Provide comprehensive education on eyewear care, usage, and maintenance

Clinical Support:

Assist optometrists with pre-screening equipment and preliminary assessments as needed
What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications:



Licensed Optician OR Student Optician currently enrolled in an accredited program Strong understanding of opticianry principles, lens types, and frame materials Excellent manual dexterity and attention to precision Proficiency with optical equipment and measurement tools Strong mathematical skills for optical calculations Professional communication and patient service skills

Preferred Qualifications:



Bilingual fluency in English and French to serve our diverse patient base Previous experience in optical dispensing or eye care settings preferred Knowledge of current eyewear trends and fashion Experience with practice management software and optical point-of-sale systems Contact lens fitting and dispensing experience

Technical Skills:



Proficiency with lensometers, pupilometers, and fitting tools Understanding of prescription interpretation and lens designs Knowledge of frame adjustment techniques and repair procedures Familiarity with lens ordering systems and optical laboratories
