We are seeking a dedicated Optical Assistant to join our team in providing exceptional eye care services and customer support. This role involves assisting with patient interactions, supporting optical operations, and ensuring a smooth workflow within our optical practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in eye health, retail sales, and delivering excellent customer service. Prior experience in optical or laboratory settings is a plus, but we are willing to provide training for the right candidate, offer subsidies to the NAIT optician programme. This position offers an engaging environment where you can develop your skills in healthcare and retail management.
Duties
Greet patients and customers professionally, creating a welcoming environment
Assist with patient intake, including gathering medical history and explaining procedures
Manage inventory of optical products and ensure proper display of merchandise
Fluent in computer skills, espcially on Microsoft office suite (including Excel) and more
Educate patients on lens options, frame selections, and optical products to enhance their experience with the supervision by licensed optician
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the optical area to meet health and safety standards
Assist with retail sales by recommending suitable eyewear options and processing transactions
Have passion and be willing to become a student optician:
Support laboratory tasks such as lens cutting or assembly (Student Optician)
Support the fitting and adjustment of glasses and contact lenses (Student Optician)
Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye care is preferred
Previous laboratory experience or optical experience is advantageous
Experience in retail sales or sales roles, especially within healthcare or eyewear industries, is desirable
Familiarity with optical software or similar electronic health record systems is a plus
Strong communication skills with the ability to educate and assist customers effectively
Ability to work well in a team environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently
Customer-focused attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
Be willing to work on weekends
Prior experience in retail management is beneficial but not required
