Job Description

Adecco is currently hiring a temporary Optical Assembly Technician to work full-time hours for our client Sanmina located in Ottawa, ON. Sanmina designs, manufactures and repairs some of the most complex and innovative optical, electronic and mechanical products in the world. In this role, you would perform functions associated with all manufacturing operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks, as well as performing rework and quality testing related to the production of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. You would use sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct on-line adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment. You will determine and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process. You will be working with engineers in conducting experiments. * Location: Ottawa, ON

  • Pay Rate: $18+/hour
  • Availability Required: 2x day shift 8:00am to 4:00pm and 2x evening shift 4:00pm to 12:00am

Responsibilities: * Normally receives little instructions on daily work, and general instructions on newly introduced assignments
  • Independently applies extensive practical knowledge of technical principles and practices for complex installation and maintenance tasks in support of the manufacturing of client products, in a frequently highly time-sensitive environment.
  • Handles miniature sensitive optical components in preparation for assembly.
  • Operates and calibrates highly accurate optical alignment equipment.
  • Performs active and passive optical alignment of various optical devices.
  • Handles bare fibers and connects to various peripheral test equipment for alignment purposes.
  • Supports the engineering team with various data logging, measurement, documentation updates and training of new staff.
  • Supports engineering staff in the use of various pieces of equipment such as manual translation stages, semi-auto or fully automated optical alignment systems, and peripheral equipment such as UV cure, optical power meters, source meters, laser sources, etc.
  • Works with engineering staff to help setup applications and transfer to operations as quickly as possible.
  • Supports customer builds in time sensitive environments.
  • Independently provides support to the optical engineering staff as well as the operations team leads.
  • Develops and implements manufacturing techniques and/or data gathering methodologies.
  • Assists in the building of prototypes.
Requirements: * Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
  • College Diploma in a related field.
  • 1-2 years' related experience.
  • Experience working with manufacturing equipment/processes including optical splicing, optical alignment, epoxy dispensing, manual attachment of components, measurement systems as well as data gathering for yield and cycle time optimizations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work with others as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
