Operations Systems Programmer
with deep SQL expertise, strong report development skills, and the ability to build and support automation and web-based applications for our manufacturing clients. Role Summary
The
Operations Systems Programmer
will design, modify, migrate, and support database-driven applications and reports used in MISys Manufacturing implementations. This role combines development work with technical consulting, allowing clients to improve operational efficiency through customized tools, optimized queries, automated processes, and well-designed reporting.
You will work directly with clients, internal team members, and CNS leadership to build robust, reliable solutions that support day-to-day manufacturing activities. Responsibilities include SQL development, Crystal Reports design, custom service development, web-based application programming, and assisting with server or system migrations.
As with other CNS consulting roles, this position offers significant autonomy in planning and executing tasks for multiple clients. Occasional travel in North America may be required.
Key Responsibilities
1. SQL Database Development & Optimization
Design, write, and optimize
SQL queries
, stored procedures, views, triggers, and data models.
Troubleshoot SQL performance issues, implement indexing strategies, and resolve data-related system errors.
Support database integrations with MISys Manufacturing and third-party systems.
2. Crystal Reports Development
Build sophisticated
Crystal Reports
using complex SQL queries and multi-table schema relationships.
Modify, enhance, and refactor existing reports to improve clarity, performance, and business usefulness.
Ensure report accuracy by validating data flows and business logic.
3. Automation via Microsoft Services & SQL Agent Jobs
Develop and maintain
Windows Services
, background applications, and automation utilities.
Configure and optimize
SQL Agent jobs
for scheduled tasks such as ETL processes, report generation, and system maintenance.
Ensure automation is resilient, well-documented, and aligned with client workflows.
4. Server Migrations & Sandbox Environments
Lead or assist in
server migrations
, particularly those involving upgrades to newer MISys versions.
Build full
sandbox environments
including:
MISys installation
Database duplication
Custom applications, services, and scripts
Crystal report sets
Support clients through testing cycles and troubleshoot migration issues.
5. Web-Based Application Development (API + SQL)
Build lightweight or full web applications that integrate with SQL databases and REST APIs.
Create internal tools for clients such as dashboards, portals, data collection webforms, or automation portals.
Follow security and performance best practices for web applications.
Provide technical support for MISys Manufacturing and related tools.
Research and diagnose application and database errors, providing clear solutions and documentation.
Assist with MISys implementations and system upgrades by supporting data imports/exports and custom functionality.
Prerequisites
Expert-level SQL experience
, including stored procedures, query tuning, data modeling, and database troubleshooting.
Crystal Reports expertise
, including advanced formula writing and multi-database joins.
Experience building or maintaining
Windows Services
, APIs, or automated tasks.
Demonstrated ability to develop
web applications
using SQL-backed data and third-party APIs.
Strong IT understanding (servers, permissions, network basics, etc.).
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Ideal Background
Experience working with
manufacturing systems
or MISys Manufacturing (asset but not required).
Exposure to ERP/MRP systems, manufacturing workflows, and operational data structures.
Familiarity with following technologies:
.NET (C# or VB.NET)
JavaScript/TypeScript
REST or SOAP APIs
IIS or similar hosting environments
SQL Server administration
Ability to independently analyze technical problems and develop creative, practical, and scalable solutions.
Additional Requirements
Ability to manage multiple projects with independent judgment.
Education & Experience
High school diploma required; college or university education preferred.
Demonstrated experience with:
SQL database development
Crystal Reports
Application or service programming
Database-driven web development
Experience with MISys Manufacturing or other manufacturing software is considered a significant advantage.
Language Skills
Must be fluent in conversational and written English.
Must be able to write documentation, explain technical concepts, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
