About the Position
This position is an important, "hands-on" support role for the operations department for the afternoon shift
Description & Responsibilities
Responsible for efficient and economic operation of equipment and workforce from the standpoint of both cost and quality, as warranted by business volumes
Creates load plans and routes deliveries as per customer service and linehaul team
Oversees and monitors effectiveness and scheduling of warehouse workers
Communicates and maintains compliance with legislated regulatory and company standards and policies within the scope of the position
Identifies work flow and work load problems and service failures and responds accordingly
Interprets standard operating procedures and practices for unusual conditions, and takes appropriate local remedial action in the best interests of the company and its public reputation
Organizes and maintains security of company equipment and inbound/outbound shipments,
responds to and delegates responsibility for team members in an orderly and timely manner
Creates a positive environment of continuous improvement
Bridges gaps in operations and continually seeks better, smarter and more effective ways of serving customers and supporting the company's needs
Performs other responsibilities as delegated by the Terminal Manager
Experience & Attributes
Previous experience in a cross dock/LTL warehouse
Freight routing experience
Forklift experience (to coach and mentor)
Leadership, supervisory experience; ability to coach/mentor and bring about positive change
Minimum of five years of progressive operations experience
Post secondary education preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel skills, Word, Outlook)
Experience with TruckMate and AS400 will be an asset
Ability to research, analyze and communicate in the best interests of the company
Knowledge of the Transportation Industry
Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously
Demonstrates superior communication skills that foster open, respectful communication and dialogue
Good working knowledge of applicable National Safety Code
Positive, self-motivated, self-starter and analytical attitude, works independently
Attention to detail and accuracy, good organizational skills
Superior verbal and written communication skills
