Through maintaining pride in our work and holding a commitment to excellence we have become a trusted partner in road maintenance in Western Canada. : As the Operations Manager for Arrowsmith Road Maintenance, you will play a critical role in overseeing our road maintenance operations, with a primary focus on managing sealcoat construction projects. You will work closely with our dedicated team to ensure the successful execution of seal coat construction projects, direct oversight of the construction crew, and manage various aspects of day-to-day operations. This role involves project management, strategic planning, and effective leadership. Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management, oversight, and leadership ensuring operational readiness and ongoing compliance with contractual obligations through the contract term.
  • Accurately estimate the requirements and costs of major sealcoat construction projects.
  • Conduct in-depth job costing analysis to optimize resource utilization, monitor project financials, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Travel with the sealcoat construction crew for approximately four months during the summer sealcoat season.
  • Manage sealcoat projects onsite, providing guidance and direction to the crew to meet job-specific deliverables.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies, schedules, and plans for completing the sealcoat season efficiently.
  • Oversee crew procurement, structure, and equipment requirements to ensure the successful execution of all sealcoat projects.
  • Handle crew disruptions and disagreements through effective conflict resolution, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Implement disciplinary actions when company rules are violated, ensuring adherence to organizational policies.
  • Exercise the authority to suspend work when safety or quality standards are not met, ensuring compliance with stop-work orders and Government-issued non-conformance reports.
  • Build and manage a positive relationship within the team and external stakeholders
  • Promote and drive a positive work environment.
  • Provide clear instructions to Quality Control, the Roads Foreman, and the crew members on their respective deliverables for each project, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Monitor and ensure that all Quality Control procedures and standards are accurate and up to date and implement necessary corrections wherever required.
  • Oversee and adjust Aggregate & Emulsion Application Rates as required, optimizing production processes for efficiency and quality.
  • Act as the key liaison with Ministry Representatives, ensuring that all daily reports are accurately documented and placed in the Project Book.
  • Foster positive relationships with industry representatives such as BC Roadbuilders, attending construction networking and workshop events for continuous professional development.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in road construction and/or managing provincial and territorial projects.
  • Proven experience in managing sealcoat construction projects and/or road re-surfacing operations.
  • Strong analytical skills for accurate project estimation and job costing analysis.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with a focus on problem-solving and team motivation.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, quality control standards, and traffic management procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective instruction and coordination of project activities.
  • Mid to advanced level of expertise with MS Office with an ability to quickly learn additional software as required.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work on-site during the summer sealcoat season.
  • Valid Driving License.
