The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $72,191- $79,595 starting salary determined by the PEA

Performance range: starting salary to max of $93,896 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Reporting to the UNFS Sr. Manager, Operations, the Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting the Director and the UNFS Management team in delivering quality products and services to the university community. The Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the residential and retail facilities as assigned including service workers for the cleaning of the UNFS area. This responsibility includes resource deployment to achieve institutional, Campus Services and UNFS objectives within campus dining. The Manager provides input on the delivery of a comprehensive marketing strategy and business plans that maximizes revenue generation, while ensuring a strong student experience.

The Operational structure of Campus Dining includes a Senior Manager Operations, 2 Operations Managers, Coordinators and Supervisors.

The Operations Manager is responsible for the operational oversight and development of the Front of House residence/retail operations as assigned at the university. This overall responsibility includes:
  • Overseeing campus dining on campus.
  • Ensuring excellent client support and satisfaction for all Food Services users with a particular focus on residence students.
  • Ongoing review and execution of any required enhancements to current business practices, models and systems etc. within residential and retail dining.
  • Overseeing staffing responsibilities including recruitment, training, and development for front of House operations.
  • Development of new business within UNFS residence and retail operations on campus.
  • Liaise and work closely with key members of the Back of House team
  • Overseeing the profitability for campus dining within the UNFS department.
  • Collaborate with and support the operations department as there is crossover between roles based on business needs.
Based on business needs and requirements, the Operations Manager works a varied work schedule that may include weekends and/or evenings.

Job Requirements

This position requires a minimum of post-secondary diploma with a preference to education in business and hospitality management. In addition, this position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the food services industry, preferably in a post-secondary or a similar organization. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Working knowledge of Public Health Authorities and FoodSafe standards and guidelines is essential.
  • An understanding of the complex and unique needs of a campus community.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Understanding of labour relations, conflict management, employee development and retention strategies through performance management initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Proven track record achieving projects goals on time and produce deliverables of high quality.
  • Demonstrated experience Managing food services while using available resources responsibly.
  • Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience with the development and presentation of detailed proposals.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs and a minimum Excel proficiency level of intermediate.
