Reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Terminal specifically focused on our professional drivers, their daily dispatch, and the equipment. This position plays a key role in communicating with drivers to ensure they are ready for their shifts and are able to meet our customer requirements.

  • Analyzing data to predict staffing requirements, liaise with Human Resources to ensure recruitment needs are fulfilled.
  • Responsible for the overall supervision, hiring, retention, training, and development of all staff within the Terminal.
  • Employee relations, such as dispute resolution, discipline, and communications.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day safety and operation of the Terminal.
  • Providing support and direction to the Driver Field Support to ensure our safety culture is maintained and processes and policies followed.
  • Ensuring compliance with Federal Regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Working closely with the dispatch team to ensure a superior level of service is provided to all internal and external customers.
  • Facilitating the effective utilization of people and equipment.
  • Preparing terminal huddles, weekly performance call, and monthly asset planner.
  • Ensuring customer requests are responded to in a timely manner, including preparation of required information for meetings and planning sessions.
  • Conducting site visits for customer service reviews and service level validation - resolve differences as required.
  • Realizing effective communication of available resources to other regional dispatch centers and developing a strong working relationship to ensure effective execution of customer service requirements.
  • Working closely with Fleet Services to ensure that all equipment that requires repair/maintenance is made available.
  • Administering other duties as required
What you bring:
  • Previous supervisory responsibilities in the transportation industry considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education with a concentration in administration, safety, logistics or transportation would be an asset
  • Knowledge of our products is an asset (fuel and bulk commodities)
  • Experience with Windows based programs is required; TMW experience is an asset - must be computer literate and savvy
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty truck maintenance and repairs an asset
  • Required to be on-call during scheduled work days
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized, detail oriented, enthusiastic and confident with a roll up your sleeves attitude towards work
  • A self-starter with a highly energetic results oriented work style
  • Ability to maintain a sense of humor and composure in challenging situations
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Capable of handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, requiring initiative and ambition, able to work independently
  • A solid business presence complimented by personal drive, resourcefulness, maturity, integrity, honesty and sound business judgment
