UPEI Student Union Job Title: Operations Manager Reports to: General Manager Position Type: Full Time Work Location: WA Murphy Student Centre Start Date: May 1, 2023 Compensation: $54,000-$57,000 per year Hours: May 1-June 15: 35-40 hours per week June 15-August 14: varied August 15-April 30: 35-40 hours per week Organization Overview Founded in 1969, the UPEI Student Union is the oldest incorporated student organization at the University of Prince Edward Island. With over 5,000 members, the UPEISU provides a range of services, including health and dental plans, funding, event programming, a campus pub and more. The UPEISU is unique in that it is the primary student advocacy organization on PEI; in other provinces, this responsibility is managed by a dedicated provincial advocacy group. The Fox & Crow is the campus pub and caf\xc3\xa9 for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the UPEI campus. The Fox & Crow is open all day to provide a place for everyone to eat, drink, relax and hang out while on campus. The pub also plays host to several events throughout the year for students, clubs and campus departments. Position Overview The Operations Manager is a full-time employee of the UPEISU who works with and is accountable to the General Manager. The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the UPEISU Campus restaurant & caf\xc3\xa9 and coordinating all WA Murphy Student Centre booking for the UPEISU. This includes managing staff, room booking requests, event planning, purchases, as well as other duties as required. Staff Responsibilities
Recruit, train and evaluate:
Kitchen Manager
Kitchen staff
Fox & Crow Manager
Conduct staff evaluations once a year.
Initiate training practices and enforce operational and personnel policies and procedures.
Sit on various hiring board committees as required.
Sit on the UPEISU Business Advisory Committee
Supervisor, coach, mentor, and discipline staff in accordance with the policies and procedures of the UPEI Student Union
Inventory & Equipment Ensure proper procedures are followed when handling UPEI Student Union food and liquor inventory and cash
Purchase equipment as required
Ensure inventory systems and controls as being maintained
Ensure equipment is maintained and in working order
Knowledge and application of all equipment setup and takedown procedures
Maintain the UPEISU security system
Financial Responsibility
Analyze variances and initiate corrective action.
Maintain labor costs and control waste.
Manage the overall financial responsibility of the Fox & Crow.
Marketing & Development
Liaise with corporate sponsors when coordinating operations, events, and activities requiring their involvement.
Menu planning and review.
Promote use of the restaurant to clubs, societies, students, and the UPEI campus community.
Understand the needs of customers and the level of their service required.
Develop marketing strategies for the Fox & Crow.
Event Management
Manage all room booking requests for the WA Murphy Student Centre.
Submit work orders as required for room booking requests.
The Operations Manager will work closely with the VP Student Life regarding all UPEISU events, activities and campaigns and will liaise with staff and departments to ensure a safe, legal, and efficient operation.
Work with students, groups, and UPEI departments to book events as requested.
Oversee both wet and dry activities and events for students and staff of UPEI.
Complete room booking requests for the SU and clubs and societies on campus.
Outreach with student groups and departments on campus
Communication
Collect, analyze, and evaluate information submitted by customers and staff members.
Complete and file manager reports
Comply for requests for information.
Maintain a positive relationship with customers, staff, students, and the University.
Compliance & University Personnel Work closely with the following groups to ensure proper communication is maintained when department activities require their services, input, or approval:

PEI Liquor Commission
PEI Department of Wellness & Health
UPEI Maintenance Department
Job Specifications
University degree, College diploma or equivalent experience
Minimum two (2) year experience
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Event management experience
Knowledge in POS systems
Must have a Responsible Beverage Server Certificate and Safe Food Handling Course
Understanding of cafe industry
Able to work days, nights, and weekends as required.
