We are looking for an experienced and energetic new team member to join our Operations team on-site in our Calgary head office as the Operations Manager who can drive our pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. *THE ROLE* Reporting to the VP, Operations (reporting to the GMP & Operational Consultant on an interim basis), the Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing Production, Warehouse, and the Operations Assistants including Inventory Control/Production Planning and Label Printing. You will develop, coach, and lead the Operations team while ensuring they are scheduling and managing the resources required to support current and future business needs. This position requires an incumbent with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills. You must be keen to learn AVL processes and procedures, and enthusiastically engage in working as part of a dedicated and hard-working team. *DAY-TO-DAY* - Leads the Operations team (Production, Warehouse, Operations Assistants \xe2\x80\x93 Inventory Control/ Production Planning and Labelling) to ensure an efficient supply chain for all products
- Manages the operational activities that support the maintenance of the facility and use of equipment
- Understand procedures, in-process steps, and critical points in the functioning of all Operations departments
- Coordinates with CS/Logistics and Sales to review recommended forecasts and inventory goals
- Monitors SKU levels, recommends future SKU rationalization initiatives and proactively improves inventory management processes for continuous improvement of operating working capital, product availability, and inventory turns
- Collaborates with Purchasing to source new packaging materials, raw materials, and assists with sourcing new required production equipment
- Ensures an adequate on-hand supply of raw and packaging materials as required by Production
- Assists with all aspects of developing Production and Warehouse areas
- Manages inventory levels and locations of finished products and provides regular updates to Accounting
- Collaborates with the Acting Production Manager and Inventory Control/Production Planner to generate long and short term production schedules ensuring on-time delivery of products
- Responsible for managing the upkeep and maintenance including reviewing of and drafting any Work Instructions, SOPs, and documents/forms that are used within the various Operations departments
- Oversees and audits documentation completed by or prepared by Operations staff
- Continuously works to streamline processes to increase efficiency quickly and adeptly addressing issues as they arise
- Oversees location transfers collaborating with Logistics on the 3PL program ensuring it supports customers in the most cost effective and efficient manner
- Collaborates with the Validation Manager and Quality to adhere to the preventative maintenance schedule and all validation activities
- Ensures Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) are implemented and followed at all times
- Fosters a safe work environment by monitoring employee compliance to legal/regulatory safety regulations
- Responsible for ensuring the completion of performance reviews of managers and the staff they oversee
- Other duties and special projects as required *IDEAL FIT* Education & Experience - REQUIRED - BSc in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline
- Minimum 5 years in Operations, Supply Chain or Production with at least 2 years working in a supervisory capacity managing operational teams
- Experience in Pharmaceutical or Food industry preferred with a sound familiarity in cGMP regulations (previous experience with Health Canada and FDA considered an asset)
- Understands the context of and how Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions should be implemented
- Experience with computer programs, ERP systems, and electronic data records
- Experienced in working safely and understanding the requirements of safety sensitive positions Skills and Attributes - Great interpersonal communication skills and integrity to promote relationships based on trust with customers, suppliers and co-workers (professional level of English required)
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and changing priorities; work extended hours when required, make sound decisions under pressure, and work effectively in a team environment
- Able to rigorously apply, follow and maintain rules, regulatory requirements, procedures, and processes
- Proven organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines
