PRISMA is a classical music festival and summer academy for pre-professional orchestra students and enthusiastic audiences that runs for two weeks every June in Powell River, BC. Beyond the festival, PRISMA operates a year-round venue for concerts, rehearsals, workshops, and community gatherings. Together, these initiatives create opportunities for students, professional artists, and local residents to connect through music, while enriching the cultural life of the qathet region.
Summary
The Operations & Facilities Manager is PRISMA's lead executor - the person who turns planning into action. This role ensures that venues and events run seamlessly by overseeing logistics, maintenance, and setup. The Operations & Facilities Manager plays a vital role in bringing the Senior Leadership Team's vision to life and contributes valuable on-the-ground perspective to decision-making. They ensure that festivals, concerts, academy programs, and year-round venue operations (PRISMA Performing Arts Hub, opening March 2026) are safe, efficient, and functional; and, in collaboration with the Events & Outreach Coordinator and other staff, foster welcoming experiences for participants and audiences.
Job Responsibilities
Translate Senior Leadership Team strategy into actionable, detailed execution plans.
Act as the organization's representative to landlords and external venue operators for both year-round activities and festival events.
Serve as PRISMA's primary liaison with external contractors such as caterers, hotels, and rental companies in communication with the Academy Manager, Guest Artist Liaison, Artistic Director, and others.
Manage relationships with the organization's permanent tenants and subtenants, including rental agreements, rent collection, and ongoing communications.
Activate rental structures and policies for PRISMA's facilities and equipment, in collaboration with the Events & Outreach Coordinator.
Manage and coordinate user access, in collaboration with the Events & Outreach Coordinator.
Manage operations and functionality for venues both temporary and year-round including event set-up/teardown, transitions, venue maintenance, and custodial.
Coordinate with staff and stakeholders on space improvements, inventory, safety, and operational readiness.
Supervise and direct Volunteer Coordinator, Transportation Coordinator, production crew, bar managers, and seasonal event staff.
Integrate volunteers effectively into PRISMA operations and ensure they are well-supported.
Balance hands-on work with delegation, ensuring that crew, volunteers, and temporary staff are mobilized for tasks that extend beyond individual capacity.
Provide clear lines of communication so all operational requests funnel through this role.
Work closely with program and event leads to ensure logistical support for student catering, box office, outreach, and community events.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, contracts, insurance requirements, leases, and venue policies.
Anticipate operational needs and proactively resolve challenges as they arise.
Skills & Qualifications Required
Demonstrated experience in event and venue operations, ideally within a festival or performing arts context.
Experience supervising staff, contractors, and volunteers, with the ability to delegate effectively.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; proven ability to manage complex logistics under pressure.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with venues, partners, and service providers.
Proficiency in scheduling, inventory, and project management tools; experience managing budgets and vendor/contractor agreements.
Working knowledge of technical production needs (audio/visual, staging, lighting) sufficient to cover basics and liaise with specialists.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations, emergency protocols, insurance, and risk management for public events.
Hands-on and self-sufficient, with the physical ability to lift and move event equipment (e.g., tables, chairs, instruments, staging) as required.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours during festivals and events.
Valid driver's license (comfort with larger rental vehicles an asset).
First aid or event safety training (or willingness to obtain) is an asset.
Hours of Work
This position is based on 1,400 hours annually, scheduled flexibly in alignment with PRISMA's festival planning and venue rental needs.

$30/hour
