The purpose of the Operations and Security Centre (OSC) is to provide 24/7 central monitoring and support to our Company\xe2\x80\x99s Operations inclusive of its vessels, terminals, people, assets, technology, and systems. The OSC team enhances our safety and customer focus.


As a member of the OSC\xe2\x80\x99s frontline team, you are an integral part of the OSC\xe2\x80\x99s effectiveness. Your main responsibilities include monitoring BCF assets, collecting relevant information and initiating corrective action as required. Where necessary, you will also facilitate conversations; give advice and direction relative to Company policy, operational requirements, and matters of safety and security.


BC Ferries is a dynamic operation and as part of the security team, you maintain appropriate communications during service interruptions/incidents, while providing continual fleet wide security and operational monitoring. In addition, you align with the service delivery model by ensuring standards for productivity and service quality are met, performing analysis of statistical data, and recommending process and/or technology improvements.


From a skills perspective, you demonstrate a strong ability to think critically, act on good judgement and give clear decisions while evaluating situations and determining customer service impacts and appropriate corrective action. You demonstrate strong leadership skills with effective negotiation and change-management knowledge and an understanding of the financial impact of operational decisions.


You work cooperatively and respectfully with all staff to ensure ongoing effective communication; are familiar with command and control structure during an emergency; and have knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, emergency preparedness and response, and contingency planning.


Preference will be given to candidates with a post-secondary degree or diploma and/or equivalent experience in marine transportation operations. Experience with BCF\xe2\x80\x99s operations, security technologies and systems and critical dispatch centre is an asset, as is experience working with emergency services/incident command centres.
