The Payments team processes incoming and outgoing electronic/manual payments for the Bank's clients, branches, and departments. The types of payments processed are Customer Transfers, Bank to Bank transfers, Payroll, Pension payments in various currencies, correspondent bank charges, bank drafts and cheques. The Operations Analyst is responsible for payment repair/verification. The analyst will support the report reviews and validations as required ensuring deadlines are met. Position will be required to support cross departmental functions, as required within the operation. The position will report to the Payments Department Operations Manager.

This position will work in the office with a requirement to support shifts/weekends and/or statutory holidays, as required.

Responsibilities

Repair, verify/authorize and release payments on both GBS (Global Banking System)/AS400 systems including correspondent bank charges

Review and complete investigations for same day wires and other queries as received ensuring timelines and client expectations are met

Monitor payment queues to ensure all items are processed timely and cleared by end of processing day

Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and timeliness metrics

Monitor and route the incoming SWIFT messages to various departments within Operations, as required

Process bulk files/pension payments

Process Exotic Currency payments

File, and send files to offsite storage or save to shared drive

Process manual payments/ accounting entries

Process Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) files

Handle other payment process-related duties/functions as assigned including Data Entry into various systems supported and requirement to support cross departmental functions, as required within the operation.

Provide input on application to Local Canadian International Payment Rules and Regulations(Lynx/ACSS/FEDWIRE/other country requirements.

Support review and validation of AS400 and GBS reports to ensure all controls and requirements were met (APS Reports, BAFF, Earthport, File Act).

Review payment file validating signatures in accordance with delegated authority and 4 or 6 eye review.

Act as a resource on User Acceptance testing (UAT) and Performance Acceptance Testing on AS400 and GBS platform

Qualifications

One to three years of experience in payments processing with a financial institution desired an asset

Working knowledge of AS400/GBS or payments systems

Knowledge of payment process and Canadian clearing systems and rules

Familiarity with SWIFT messages and proper formatting

Working knowledge of accounting concepts

Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SWIFT Alliance systems with strong keyboarding skills

Excellent communication and problem solving skills

Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to meet established deadlines in a fast paced environment with changing priorities and ability to work statutory holidays and weekends, as required
