Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Control and Automation Student \xe2\x80\x93 Spring 2024 Semester to join our Operational Technology Department. This is a 4-month fixed term position. This position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.The Control and Automation Student will be an integral part of the Systems Engineering Team within the Long Harbour Processing Plant. This involves maintaining and improving the Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and the integrated DCS & PLC Networks.The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility by tackling multifunctional roles that include a production or operational assignment, team or work crew administrative duties and championing specific assignments, as applicable. These roles will be addressed, as appropriate, at an operating, maintaining and continuous improvement level. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Promote and actively contribute to people safety and risk management (Management of Change processes, Hazops, What If\xe2\x80\x99s, Bowties, HIRA), executing identified actions with the highest priority, improving preventive and mitigating controls.
  • Assist with operational support and troubleshooting on demand, working with operations and maintenance teams for the highest plant performance.
  • Help with control logic and operator interface improvements, preforming alarm management, striving for overall continuous improvement of operation and troubleshooting in the area ICS system.
  • Assist with executing tasks and departmental procedures related to the health and cybersecurity of the system and network.
  • Implement/audit tasks related to system backups and the site disaster recovery plan.
  • Continuously strive to maintain expert knowledge and skills related to Controls & Automation.
About YouEducation
  • Currently enrolled in a Computing Systems Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology (Power and Controls) post-secondary program
Skills
  • A clear obsession with safety and risk management
  • A high technical aptitude with a motivated problem-solving attitude.
  • Software engineering or computer systems background considered an asset.
  • Data Analytics experience with applications such as Power BI\\Power Automate considered an asset.
