Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Communications Team is a division of the Vale Base Metals Sustainability, Communications and Corporate Affairs Department. The Newfoundland and Labrador team provides communications support and strategic guidance to the Newfoundland & Labrador Leadership for Long Harbour, Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay Operations & Project, and support teams. They interact with all levels of leadership, employees, stakeholders, interest groups, and the media, while helping build on Vale\xe2\x80\x99s reputation in the province.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Communications Student \xe2\x80\x93 Spring 2024 to join our Communications team in St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL. This is a 4-month fixed term position working on a Monday to Friday schedule primarily from the St. John\xe2\x80\x99s office; some travel to Long Harbour and Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay may be required.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives through the Communications Department and helping to support the operations in Newfoundland and Labrador. You will assist with Internal Communications as well help with initiatives to increase and protect the reputation of Vale\xe2\x80\x99s operations in Newfoundland and Labrador. In this role you will assist with keeping employees informed and engaged about key strategic priorities of the business. You will also help provide effective branding guidance and engagement that is targeted towards various stakeholders, internal and external. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Provide Internal communications support on various topics.
  • Become familiar with importance of branding and be able to provide support to internal and external stakeholders using Vale\xe2\x80\x99s brand.
  • Assist to construct and protect the reputation of the company through various methods, including digital media, advertising, brand, events & exhibitions, site visits, photos & videos, communications with employees.
  • Work regularly with Microsoft Office Products, especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word, and Excel to provide deliverables.
  • Participate in the day-to-day execution of our communication team goals. Develop, proofread, and edit engaging and relevant content for various communication channels, including e-bulletins, posters, social media, website, and internal communications.
About You

Education:
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce (Co \xe2\x80\x93 Op) program.
  • Preferably a concentration in marketing, public relations, English, or administration.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in a communication and/or event planning role would be an asset.
Skills:
  • Ability to effectively exchange information (oral and writing skills).
  • Attention to detail, along with editing and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in writing.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking projects in an effective and organized manner.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, presentation, and problem- solving skills.
