OPERATIONAL RISK OFFICER (JOB NUMBER: RISK-250123-BJ-001)

The position at a glance
The mission of RISK Operational Risk Management (\xe2\x80\x9cORM\xe2\x80\x9d) is to oversee the effective and efficient functioning of the Operational Permanent Control (OPC) framework implemented by business lines and functions (1st line of defense or 1LOD), as well as the measurement and management of Operational Risks (OR). They serve in an independent oversight capacity, as part of the 2nd line of defense (2LOD), ensuring that the 1LOD is fulfilling its Permanent Control (PC) objectives and requirements. RISK ORM\xe2\x80\x99s scope includes the CIB business line, and its supporting operational units and transversal functions across the Americas (US, Canada, Brazil & Latin America).

RISK ORM Functions and Global Banking team is acting as the 2nd Line of Defense for the Functions and Global Banking Business Line (\xe2\x80\x98GB-BL\xe2\x80\x99) in the Americas. The primary role of the team RISK ORM is to provide relevant RISK and CIB/GB senior management a comprehensive, transparent, exhaustive and consistent front to back view of Operational Risk across the Functions and GB activities in the US.
Main Responsibilities BNPP is looking for an Operational Risk Officer to support the Functions across the Americas. Operational Risk Officers supervise the front to back Operational Risk (\xe2\x80\x9dOR\xe2\x80\x9d) Management framework and more specifically:


  • Establish key relationships with the various Functions of CIB
  • Develop an awareness of all functions activity and advising on decisions with OR impacts such as new processes and other change management/transformational initiatives
  • Assessment, monitoring and effective challenge of the Functions on risk identification, risk assessment, risk mitigations and Key Risk Indicators (KRI) (incl. remediation or effectiveness of controls).
  • Assessment of the Control Framework Effectiveness by defining a business aligned, risk based testing program on an annual basis and review results with control owners and agreeing on action plans.
  • Oversight, effective challenge and reporting on operational losses, including both actual and Potential Incidents (PI), and the oversight of root cause analysis and action plans.
  • Ensure alignment by working with global counterparts and Group RISK ORM to ensure initiatives are timely implemented at the local CIB level and standardized when applicable.
  • Monitor and report on deliverables and alert any risk that arise.



The strengths and skills that will help you succeed
  • 7+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in CIB Functions and/or Businesses on specific products and processes or detailed understanding/experience in Operational Risk Management
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Audit, Risk or another financial Industry related field
  • An undergraduate degree in RISK Management or a business related graduate degree (MBA) is a plus
  • Knowledge of DFS, FRB and Prudential Regulations or corporate governance practices a plus
  • Knowledge of Third Party Vendor Management, Information/Cyber Security or Fraud detection will be considered a plus
  • Ability to manage and analyze large amounts of data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for active interaction with senior business, functional and transversal management. Ability to influence, negotiate and articulate simple clear messages on complex topics
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to conceptualize issues and translate into solutions
  • Experience effectively interacting and communicating with senior leaders and regulators
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong Presentation skills
  • Project Management skills a plus
