Group Benefits Member Operations is looking for an Operational Risk & Control Senior Specialist to join our Member Operations team. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, influential, and passionate professional who is committed to building solid relationships while delivering on initiatives in a fast-paced and changing environment.

The Group Benefits organization services customers through the timely and efficient processing of hundreds of thousands of member updates and Health and Dental claims every day. We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for an Operational Risk & Control Senior Specialist to join our team. As an Operations Controls Specialist, you will be assessing and actioning control reports, building and developing new controls, and ensuring that any gaps are remediated.

Responsibilities

You are a key Subject Matter Expert (SME) representing control processes and collaborating with our Member Operations team to ensure sufficient controls are in place.

Handle the completion of various controls based on relevant frequency by investigating and remediating operational control gaps and recommending and implementing solutions. Collaborate with leadership and Line 1b Risk partners to ensure alignment of Risk & control processes with the business.

Work as directed by the management team to research and document business issues involving controls procedures and processes.

Using your analytical skills and critical thinking to ask questions and understand our business drivers and needs to support control reviews for business processes.

Assisting with business controls walkthroughs with stakeholders, to ensure appropriate focus on key controls. You will provide Operations Leadership with timely consultation and recommendations on process improvements and control gaps.

Acting as a liaison with key Operations stakeholders and GB IT, to review business processes and gather and review audit evidence documentation.

Identify, document, and evaluate internal control gaps in collaboration with Risk and Compliance partners.

Regularly update the control documentation.

Assume the role of technical expert on PMA feeds and controls responsible for guiding more junior team members.

Ensure update of the relevant procedure/controls\xe2\x80\x99 documentation after process changes.

Provide leaders with the initial analysis of options available to address auditor issues and recommendations.

Maintain, report, and analyze Issue Tracking Logs to identify and address the root causes of loss and incidents.

Participate in and contribute to activities aimed at risk awareness.

What we are looking for

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent experience.

Robust knowledge of MS applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.) is a must.

Proficiency in tools such as SQL will be an advantage.

Ability to quickly understand business processes and their risk implications, analyze complex situations, reach appropriate conclusions, and make valuable and practical recommendations.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to effectively deliver key messages

Strong organizational and implementation capabilities, with good time management and reporting skills

Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimum supervision, and in a team environment, decisions in this position are made using judgment based on skills and knowledge already developed.

Demonstrated ability to apply technical industry knowledge to day-to-day issues and can adapt to new technology.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Halifax, Nova Scotia

Salary range is expected to be between $48,075.00 CAD - $80,125.00 CAD
