Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, you will write/review manuals explaining the operation, use and maintenance of vehicles manufactured by the company.

For the specific system(s) of expertise:

  • Collaborate with Engineering in the design review phases (ADR, PDR, FDR) by sharing technical expertise and lessons learned from previous contracts. Assist Engineering in defining the formal design review documents with a focus on quantity/depth of content and quality of information with the intent of optimizing re-use in technical manuals.
  • Represent Service Engineering and act as liaison in the Engineering Design Cell(s).
  • For the specific system(s) of expertise:
  • Write the functional descriptions of the maintenance manuals for the required contracts. Interact with Engineering, other Alstom divisions and suppliers to obtain the necessary information.
  • Be the Lead and guide internal and external writers throughout the writing process on technical issues related to the system and/or the methodology required to complete the documents.
  • Conduct peer reviews of technical manual elements: maintenance & troubleshooting tasks, operating manual descriptions and more. Review and comment on technical publications submitted by suppliers to ensure they comply with the standards required by customers and the department.
  • Respond to technical queries from other ISR employees (Publications, Training, RAMS, STTE).
  • Assist the ISR Manager or Supervisor in preparing bids and analyzing customer specifications. As needed, assist the Service Engineering Manager or Supervisor in discussions with customers.
  • May occasionally be required by the Service Engineering Manager or Supervisor to perform lower-level or higher level work. Take on other tasks related to the function.
  • Create an information structure (taxonomy and ontology) that will provide a user experience that is purposeful in the navigation of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and paper manuals. To do so, the Application Specialist will establish practices and guides to a community of users to facilitate the delivery of manuals/publications to our customers. In that regard, he will participate and different steps of a process, at the definition stage, programming and the ongoing stages of execution and change requests.
  • Provide specifications for the development (and maintenance) of computer systems that permit the execution of daily tasks that embodies the information architecture described earlier. He will also support the document layout review and structure prior to delivery of manuals/publication.
  • Be responsible for training and support user\xe2\x80\x99s community and be responsible in the technical deployment of the existing and new solutions to end-users. He acts as power user for any new software tools for the production of manuals.
  • Be responsible for the sampling quality review of the technical documentation ready to deliver to the customers. He will be responsible in the migration and programming of previous environments to a new specifications or environment.
  • Work closely with Publishers, his role will support the Publisher in the software tools technical aspect.
REQUIRED PROFILE:
  • University degree in Engineering, Computer sciences or relevant experience will also be considered.
  • 8 to 10 years using electronic publishing systems,
  • Be familiar with DITA or S1000D specifications,
  • Knowledge of Technical Publications and Publishing Softwares such Arbortext and Framemaker,
  • Be familiar with languages such XML, HTML, XSLT, Javascript,
  • Knowledge of MS-Office suite including Excel Lookup formulas and macros,
  • English fluent, French an asset
