Position Summary:
The Ohahase Principal and Special Education Teacher is responsible for all management and leadership of the Ohahase Eduction Centre (OEC), which includes the development, implementation and maintenance of programming, including a Secondary School Program and the Adult Education Program. The Principal will also be expected to have classroom teaching time in the area of Special Education support for Ohahase students.
The Principal works closely with the Director of Education, Culture and Language, employees of OEC, and the students and families of OEC.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Director of Education, Culture and Language. This position oversees the Ohahase Education team.
Summary of Main Responsibilities:

Academic
:
o Developing and maintaining Academic Policies and practices for the Centre, ensuring consistency with MBQ's Academic Policy and procedures, including all key information reporting deadlines.
o Implementing of Ohahase Education Centre Programs, including all applicable documentation, in accordance with Ministry of Education (MOE), ISC, and MBQ standards and requirements.
o Ensuring courses are appropriately scheduled, preparing course schedule and semester calendars
o Ensuring use of current approved curriculum, including cultural programming
o Providing in class teaching time where required for Special Education, augmenting current classroom teachers
o Evaluating curriculum, teaching methods and revise programs as required
Learner and Teacher Support
:
o Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment
o Monitoring learner attendance records/grades, ensuring that both personal and academic supports are made available to the learners, through a systematic review with teacher input
o Ensuring respect for the cultural values of the learners
o Overseeing all OEC staff to ensure their adherence to academic policy and procedures
o Supervising and evaluating teaching staff, providing feedback and support for professional growth
Administrative
:
o Ensuring that learner records are appropriately maintained and reported, as required by MOE and other relevant external agencies, in a timely manner
o Ensuring compliance with the reporting requirements of MOE, ISC, and MBQ.
o Reporting, including quarterly academic and financial performance reports
o Creating and monitoring budget, ensuring all reporting and compliance to funding agreements
o Proposal writing to create other funding opportunities or OEC
o Managing school operations, including resource allocation, and facilities maintenance
Leadership:
o Making recommendations with regard to resource planning: learner supports; human resources; financial; facilities (LT., space, and instructional capital)
o Responsible for creating and implementing the value, vision and mission of OEC
o Staying up to date with the latest trends and best practices in education.
o Adapting to the changing needs of the school and the community
o Making difficult decisions and effectively communicating with a variety of stakeholders
Health and Safety:
o Promoting and following all MBQ Health and Safety policies and procedures
All other duties as required
Requirements:
Bachelor of Education, from an accredited university honours preferred, in relevant secondary school subjects.
Masters of Education (from an accredited university) would be preferred
Must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Ontario Teaching Certificate - Certification of Qualification for Intermediate/Senior or Junior/Intermediate
Special Education certification would be an asset
Five years teaching experience and/or experience as a Principal
Aboriginal or Ontario Principal Course would be an asset
Experience in an Indigenous learning environment would be an asset
Demonstrated Indigenous Knowledge and practices
Experience in budgeting and supervision, preferred
Must provide a clear VSC (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
First Aid and CPR an asset (and must be willing to take the training if hired)
Valid Driver's License and vehicle

Experience with computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, email and internet
Proficient in writing reports and proposals
