Job Summary

The Payroll Officer is responsible for timely and accurate preparation and production of all payroll. The Payroll Officer calculates, processes, and produces employee pay cheques. The incumbent reviews documentation submitted for payment of employees, ensuring compliance with established payroll and accounting practices and standards, statutory regulations, collective agreements and University policies.The incumbent liaises with Human Resources and other departments when investigating and responding to queries regarding payroll.


Qualifications

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or Payroll Administrator Certificate Completion of one-year recognized accounting courses (i.e. CPA) or completion of the first year of an accounting/business program at an accredited post-secondary institution. Four (4) years related payroll experience Ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience and advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, databases and payroll systems such as Banner, MS Office Demonstrated working knowledge of an integrated computer payroll, human resources and accounting system. Understanding of Collective Agreement, University policy, and statutory requirements. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Proven ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person and in writing with faculty, staff, administrators, auditors, Ministry and agency officials and the public. Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills. Proven ability to recognize, analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, ability to develop, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and work cooperatively in a team environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
