Position Summary



As an

Ocean Import Coordinator

, you will play a key role in coordinating international ocean freight shipments, maintaining strong client and vendor relationships, and ensuring the timely and accurate movement of goods from origin to destination. You will manage documentation, communicate with carriers and agents, and provide outstanding customer service throughout the import process.

This role requires attention to detail, proactive communication, and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously. The position offers opportunities for professional development and career progression within NUERA's import department.

Essential Functions



Coordinate full container load (FCL) and less-than-container load (LCL) ocean import shipments from overseas origins to final delivery. Prepare and process import documentation, including arrival notices, invoices, and customs paperwork. Communicate with clients, overseas agents, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure smooth and timely cargo movement. Monitor shipments in transit, provide regular status updates to clients, and resolve any transportation or documentation issues that arise. Verify carrier bookings, confirm sailing schedules, and ensure containers are delivered and returned within free time to avoid demurrage and detention. Obtain, verify, and distribute shipment documentation in compliance with customs and CBSA requirements. Coordinate inland delivery arrangements with trucking companies, warehouses, and terminals. Prepare quotations for clients and agents, ensuring accurate cost and margin calculations. Follow up on client rate requests, shipment quotes, and billing inquiries in a timely manner. Maintain strong relationships with clients and service providers to ensure high levels of satisfaction and performance. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings within the import operation. Communicate effectively with internal departments, including accounting and operations, to ensure accurate billing and shipment tracking. Support compliance with import regulations, documentation standards, and company procedures. Contribute to department goals for efficiency, customer service, and revenue growth. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement



Successful completion of the

CIFFA Education Program

or equivalent logistics training.

Required Skills and Knowledge



2-4 years of experience in ocean import operations or international freight forwarding (FCL/LCL experience required). Knowledge of CBSA regulations, carrier procedures, and customs documentation. Strong customer service orientation and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and freight management software (CargoWise). Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively. Problem-solving skills and proactive approach to issue resolution. Experience with rate quoting, billing, and shipment tracking.
