Position Description

The Occupational Therapist (OT) plays a crucial role as part of the interprofessional healthcare team at The Hospital For Sick Children. Using an acute rehabilitation framework, the OT provides occupational consultation, assessment and intervention to promote and facilitate the development of skills essential to daily living and to minimize the impact of disability on functional independence. The OT will provide care for children within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCCU), in addition to hospital coverage as part of our OT weekend service.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Provide expert occupational therapy assessment and develop and implement a plan of intervention for children/families in collaboration with the interprofessional health care team. Core scope of this role is to support oral feeding/swallowing, neurodevelopment and cognition in a critical care environment.
Support the academic health sciences centre by providing/sharing knowledge with families, the public and other professionals internal and external to the Hospital
Provide evidence-based care by integrating research with practice
Maintain a commitment to lifelong learning and create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge to others
Participate in weekend Occupational Therapy coverage
Here's What You'll Need
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy
Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
Paediatric experience is essential
Acute care and/or critical care experience is preferred
Clinical experience and student supervision experience
Ability to promote and provide ethnically and culturally sensitive and inclusive care to a diverse population of patients and families
Ability to collaborate effectively with the University as a subject matter expert in pediatric Occupational Therapy practice
Ability to take initiative and leadership when appropriate
Outstanding interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Ability to communicate clinical findings in written documentation in adherence to hospital and regulatory policy
Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail and efficient time management

Employment Type
: Full-time contract 0.8-1.0 FTE for 1 year. Must be available to work Sunday - Wednesday or Sunday - Thursday.
