About

the

Position




As a school Occupational Therapist (on the mental health and behaviour team) you'll collaborate with the teachers, school-based teams and the district mental health and behaviour team to understand the strengths and challenges of students with a variety of self-regulation and developmental challenges.

focus

will

be

on

sensory

processing,

self-

regulation,

social

skills,

emotional

regulation,

and

access

to

curriculum

by creating an inclusive environment and skill in regulation you will promote student engagement and success. Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Department is comprised of school district staff members and Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (FVCDC) staff members who work together as a team to support student learning and access to education. The contract is a 12-month contract with vacation time falling within the school scheduled break times.


Analyze students' capabilities and expectations related to daily life activities through observation, interviews, and formal assessments. Develop intervention programs to address students' needs related to self-care, work, and leisure activities. Maintain accurate records of student progress. Establish strength based individual education programs as part of an interdisciplinary team. Consult and advise on health promotion programs to prevent disabilities and maximize independent function. May supervise support personnel and students, providing training as needed.

demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with School Based Teams, including parents, School District personnel and outside agencies and professionals regarding the student's needs in the classroom and other school and home environments. demonstrated ability to develop and present in-service to school district personnel and parents. demonstrated ability to establish, with School Based Teams, a method of service delivery that includes caseload selection and scheduling, record keeping, evaluating programs, developing instructional materials, and scheduling.

Salary

Range

Based on the position's Salary Grid and the candidates previous experience, the starting range for this (100%) full-time Occupational Therapist is expected to be between $59,711 to $109,520.


Qualifications



M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy or equivalent. Membership (or eligibility) with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC. Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Successful Vulnerable Sector screening. experience working as an occupational therapist, preferably with children aged 5 - 17. Exceptional communication skills in English (oral and written). Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a transdisciplinary team. Recent experience working in this area of practice. Knowledge of evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques.
