Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapist provides consultation, assessment, treatment and follow-up of inpatient and community-dwelling patients in the Specialized Seating Clinic of the Assistive Technology Department. This is a highly specialized clinical role helping patients with complex clinical needs and long term conditions affecting their posture and ability to function. Assessments include evaluating individual mobility, seating and pressure care needs, including pressure mapping, and preventing debilitation or decline. The objectives of treatment are to facilitate, restore and/or maintain clients\' optimal level of function. The Occupational Therapist plans, delivers and monitors treatment plans related to the provision of manual and powered wheelchairs and associated equipment needs. The Occupational Therapist provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The Occupational Therapist functions as a member of a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community health care team, collaborates with community stakeholders and advocates for clients\' needs.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • BCLS certification
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 2 years\' clinical practice, preferred
  • Experience with the provision of seating and mobility products
  • Knowledge of the World Health Organization 8 Steps of Wheelchair Provision
  • Comfort with or willingness to learn to use both manual and power tools, preferred
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Commitment to confidentiality and protection of clients\' personal health information and an understanding of related policies and best practices.

Hours of Work
  • Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly.
Salary Information

$33.80 - $42.68 hourly
