Position
Summary
Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced
Health
and
Safety
Manager
to champion a culture of safety and well-being across our division. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our health and safety programs. This role is crucial in ensuring all our schools and facilities comply with regulatory standards and provide a secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key
Responsibilities
Develop
and
Maintain
Systems:
Develop, implement, and maintain the division's Health and Safety Management System in line with the Alberta OHS Act, regulations, and industry best practices.
Risk
Management:
Review and assess risk management protocols, implementing improvements to ensure compliance with division insurance policies and to mitigate potential liabilities.
Inspections
and
Audits:
Conduct regular health and safety inspections and audits across all schools and division facilities to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Hazard
Assessment:
Identify and assess potential hazards, recommending and implementing appropriate controls to eliminate or minimize risks.
Advisory
Role:
Serve as the primary resource and advisor to school administrators and staff on all health, safety, and risk management matters.
Training
and
Education:
Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for staff and students.
Incident
Investigation:
Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions; develop, implement, and track corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Record
Keeping:
Ensure the accurate maintenance and management of all health and safety records, including incident reports, investigation findings, and training logs.
Regulatory
Liaison:
Act as the primary liaison with external regulatory bodies, including Alberta OHS, WCB, and other relevant stakeholders.
Emergency
Response:
Manage and coordinate the division's emergency response plan, utilizing the Hour Zero platform.
Committee
Support:
Serve as a key resource for the division's Health and Safety Committees, providing guidance and support to ensure their effectiveness.
Qualifications
and
Experience
Experience:
A minimum of
3-5
years
of direct experience in an Occupational Health & Safety role. Experience in an educational or school division setting is a significant asset.
Certification:
Canadian
Registered
Safety
Professional
(CRSP)
designation or an equivalent Occupational Health and Safety certification is required.
Regulatory
Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of the
Alberta
Occupational
Health
and
Safety
(OHS)
Act,
Regulation,
and
Code
.
Skills:
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Driver's
License:
A valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle for travel between sites within the division.
