Job Description

Marina Point Village is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader for the position of Nursing Supervisor (RPN) to provide departmental leadership for the advancement of clinical professional practice within our retirement community.

As a valued member of the Senior Leadership Team and leader of the Resident Services Department, the Nursing Supervisor demonstrates a commitment to the quality of resident care by providing services in accordance with the organizations vision, mission and values. Reporting to the Administrator, the Nursing Supervisor will provide supervision of the Resident Services department, optimum care services based on legislative and organization standards, policies and procedures. The Nursing Supervisor is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values of Autumnwood Mature Lifestyle Communities, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

Qualifications:



Current certificate of competence as a Registered Practical Nurse (minimum) with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Theoretical and applied knowledge of the Practice Standards set out by the Ontario College of Nurses. Willingness to update and keep current knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures as set out by the Ontario College of Nurses. Must have a minimum of 3 years managerial experience in a Retirement / Long Term Care setting or equivalent knowledge with relevant experience. Empathy for and understanding of the needs of the elderly and / or mentally / physically disabled. Valid First Aid & CPR certification. Familiar with standards set out in the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 (RHA) and the function of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA). Working knowledge of the following legislation: Employment Standards Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Coroner's Act, Labour Relations Act, Public Health Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)*

Skills:



Strong clinical knowledge and experience in various areas of nursing Excellent leadership and communication skills Ability to effectively manage a team of Nurses and Personal Support Workers Proficiency in using electronic health record system, Point Click Care (PCC) Ability to relate to all levels of staff, the residents and their families with a high degree of patience, tolerance and confidentiality. Must display initiative, good judgement, and decision-making skills. Must be able to provide effective management and supervision to up to 15 staff. Ability to interpret and understand budgets and other financial reports and statistics.

Responsibilities:



Administration & Human Resources Management

Review and propose updates to all policies and procedures to reflect current practices in the RSS department. Provide leadership, direction, guidance, supervision and follow up for all Resident Services Staff (RSS). Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the Resident Services department. Review and approve timesheets for payroll. Following the "Hiring Practices - Staff & Volunteers" section of the Operations Manual, work with the Administrator to recruit, interview and hire RSS. With the assistance of the Administrator & Human Resource Manager, appraise performance of, discipline and terminate Resident Services staff as necessary. Be knowledgeable of job responsibilities and job descriptions of RSS. Monitor RSS relations with co-workers and residents to ensure that they are courteous, respectful and advocate for resident rights. Maintain confidential and complete records related to RSS and Residents. Monitor and assess staffing needs in RSS department. Prepare and post the department schedule at least two weeks prior to the date they come into effect. Ensure that assignments and work duties are divided fairly between shifts. Handle all work grievances and disputes in the RSS department. Update Administrator in all HR matters and seek assistance of Administrator as required. Prepare the agenda for Departmental staff meetings with input from RSS and Administrator. Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate updates, changes, and expectations. Provide and oversee the appropriate orientation, instruction, supervision and ongoing in-service training of RSS employees. Ensure that all policies and procedures listed in the Autumnwood Operations Manual and Pharmacy Manual are followed by RSS. Ensure that all operational records are maintained as per policy and can be quickly referenced upon compliance inspection. Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and guidelines. Implement policies and procedures to maintain high-quality patient care. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement resident care plans Utilize Point Click Care (PCC) for documentation and communication purposes other duties as assigned.

Resident Care & Administration:



Conduct initial functional assessment and/or care plan and approve all new move-ins to the facility.

Create, review and update care plans for all residents/tenants prior to move in and once every six months thereafter.

Ensure Administrative Assistant attains all proper information for resident and tenant files.

Participate in new resident/tenant orientation as required.

Monitor new resident's/tenant's adjustment to their new living environment.

Monitor resident/tenant and family satisfaction.

Ensure Resident Services documentation is complete as per College of Nurse's nursing documentation guidelines.

Advise the Resident Services Staff (RSS) regarding medical interventions, treatment requirements and all other aspects that are within their scope of resident/tenant care as unregulated care providers.

Review 24 hour shift report DAILY and follow up in writing on any incidents or notations in the resident/tenant chart of shift and that clear, concise report is given to oncoming staff at completion of shift.

Survey resident services and the residents' general physical and emotional well being - to be done discreetly so as to encourage a feeling of independence and privacy in the residents.

Make resident's/tenant's family aware of any areas of concern and options.

Liaise with the LHIN, hospital and other institutions in providing additional supports where they are required by resident/tenants and update plan of care accordingly.

Facilitate appropriate contact with other Health Care facilities and educational facilities.

Maintain relationships with residents/tenants.

Respond to all emergency calls during work hours. Ensure that emergency medical care is provided when necessary.

Ensure all extra care services provided are recorded and tracked.

Follow up on all incident reports and ensure appropriate completion of all incident reports.

Ensure that safe medication and treatment administration practices are maintained and conduct and record regular audits of these practices with RSS.

Ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained relating to residents' services, administration of medications and treatment. Maintain confidentiality of all records.

Medication Administration:



Maintain knowledge of residents on the medication administration program and the medications that they receive.

Receive and verify pouches and blister packs to MAR sheets and doctors orders to ensure the accuracy of the administration process in conjunction with Nursing Supervisor.

Provide consultation to RSS who are administering medications as required.

Ensure pharmacy policies and procedures are in place and followed.

Ensure safe administration of medications.

Ensure reference texts are available on site.

Ensure all physician orders are processed properly.

Ensure there is an accurate policy on self-administration of medications.
