If you are a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) who is looking to practice within a large, diverse, and growing neonatal program, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for you! You will be working as part of a large NNP team that practices within a dynamic interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Calgary Zone (CZ) Neonatal Intensive Care Program operates at five sites - the Foothills Medical Centre, Alberta Children\'s Hospital, Rockyview General Hospital, Peter Lougheed Center and South Health Campus. We are looking for applicants who have effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as work collaboratively with patients and families as partners in care. This position will primarily support the Peter Lougheed Center NICU (PLC NICU). The PLC NICU is a 27-bed level 2+ NICU with 650 to 700 admissions annually, including both deliveries at the center and transfers from the two Calgary Zone level 3 NICUs. Opportunity to spend time at the High-Risk Perinatal Center level 3 NICU at the Foothills Medical Center and at the Alberta Childrens Hospital Level 3 neurocritical/surgical/complex care NICU is possible. The Calgary Zone NICU Program provides excellent regionalized clinical care to the children and families whom we serve. We make excellent contributions to education, research, advocacy, and inter-professional leadership. Quality Improvement is a particular strength in the CZ NICU Program.
Description:
The NNP provides specialized care and management of neonates, particularly those who are premature as well as term infants with common neonatal conditions. This includes resuscitation, stabilization, and management of ill neonates at birth. The NNP provides advanced clinical skills, makes critical management decisions, and facilitates consistent family-centered care as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. The NNP works with babies and families with addictions, mental health, and opioid withdrawal in a trauma-informed model. The NNP is instrumental in ensuring complex discharge planning for newborns with multisystem congenital and acquired conditions. The NNP participates in and spearheads program committees, quality improvement programs/projects, and research initiatives to promote best-evidence based practice for program clients. The NNP also provides education to AHS personnel delivering neonatal care through specific outreach programs (ACORN, NRP) or organized events.
