If you are a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) who is looking to practice within a large and diverse neonatal program, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for you! You will be working as part of a large NNP team that practices within a dynamic interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Stollery Children\'s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Program operates at three sites - The Royal Alexandra Hospital, the Misericordia Community Hospital and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. We are looking for applicants who have effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as work collaboratively with patients and families as partners in care. The NNP provides specialized care and management of neonates, particularly those who are premature, require resuscitation and stabilization, have congenital anomalies, or require cardiac or general surgery. This may include stabilization and management of ill infants born in community hospitals. The NNP provides advanced clinical skills, makes critical management decisions, and facilitates consistent family-centered care as members of a multi-disciplinary team.
Description:
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse who integrates clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine in order to assess, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures in order to manage and meet the health needs of patients. The primary responsibility of the NP is to provide comprehensive direct patient care as a central member of the team. The NP is authorized and competent to perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, intervention, management, referral, and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of health care services. The NP provides leadership and actively participates in program development and evaluation, research and clinical teaching activities. The NP participates in interdisciplinary collaboration in the practice setting to determine, and regularly review, local guidelines for drug prescription, distribution, monitoring and record keeping ensuring consistency with provincial prescribing and distributing guidelines. PLEASE NOTE: The Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP) was certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on December 20, 2021, as the bargaining agent for all employees of Alberta Health Services (AHS) who are nurse practitioners performing advanced nursing care or nursing instruction.
