. The candidate can be a registered nurse/RN, an unregistered/former RN, a registered psychiatric nurse/RPN or unregistered/former RPN.
Working within a client-centred model of care, the Nurse Manager will provide leadership including training, direction, supervision for the other team members, plus direct medical monitoring, assessments, judgements, interventions, and health care coordination for a 19 year old young adult, with a multi-domain complex health profile, who lives in a personal home in the community.
In this role, your primary focus will be on improving the health, the overall functioning, and the quality of life of the young adult. This position requires a blend of past complex care experience, the ability to learn client specific knowledge and skills, and the ability to work in ongoing collaboration with the young adult, their family, the rest of the care team, health care providers, therapists, and other community partners.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in caring for individuals with multiple medical conditions including neurological disorders, cognitive impairment, and associated emotional/behavioural issues.

Key Duties
Develop, implement, and regularly update the health care plan, associated medical protocols, and personal care plan, tailored to effectively and safely meet the client's individual medical needs.
Participate in the development of workplace policies, procedures, and best practice standards to support the client's effective and safe medical and personal care.
Provide initial orientation plus ongoing education, training and development of the other care team members. Educate them on the client's medical conditions, the risks to the client, and the signs and symptoms to monitor. Train, delegate and supervise the interventions to implement, as outlined in the health care plan, the associated medical protocols and the personal care plan.
Provide nurse medical monitoring and assessment of the client's regular and changeable signs and symptoms, and support the efficient identification of neurological, endocrine and/or other health system condition deterioration.
Implement appropriate medical interventions, including emergency medical interventions and referral to physicians when indicated.
Support the psychosocial aspects of the client's care by assessing and correctly interpreting their emotional/behavioural presentations, and by applying specific approaches, responses and strategies to support the client's emotional and behavioural stability and participation in activities of daily living, and support the other team members to do the same.
Support the care team to maintain clear, timely, and accurate client records, including documentation of signs and symptoms, medication administration documentation, interventions, and incident reports.
Regularly collaborate with the care team staff, the client's family, physicians, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team members to support the provision of effective and safe care.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nursing program is required.
Completion of a Bachelors degree or Masters degree is preferred.
Current or past registration with a nursing professional college in British Columbia or in another jurisdiction is required.
A minimum of two (2) years' work experience as a nurse is required.
A minimum of two (2) years' experience working with clients with complex medical profiles is required.
A minimum of two (2) years' case management experience is preferred.
A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a managerial, supervisory and administrative role is preferred.
Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Team) and electronic documentation systems is required.
Experience working in the community and/or in home care is preferred.
Experience in developing individualized health care plans and protocols is required.
Experience in educating, training, and delegating care to others is required.
Strong clinical assessment skills, excellent organizational abilities, and attention to detail is required.
Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
Ability to work well independently and within a small team is required.
Ability to take initiative and manage multiple work priorities is required.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills is required.
Certifications
Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.)
MANDT System and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.)
A criminal record check (CRC) by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to allow work with vulnerable adults is required. This will need be obtained and paid for by PRESS during hiring process.)
A driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract (obtained from ICBC) are required.
Additional Assets:
Experience working with clients with brain injury and other neurological disorders with resultant functional impairment of various body systems (i.e. dysautonomia, hydrocephalus with shunt treatment, adrenal insufficiency, and/or other endocrine disorders)
Experience working within trauma-informed and emotionally responsive care frameworks
Knowledge of the psychosocial dynamics associated with brain injury, neurological impairment, cognitive impairment, and intellectual disability
Commitment to adopt approaches that support a collaborative, strengths-based team, and that foster a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy and compassion, the ability to build rapport, and the ability to flex in approach and responses for better outcomes
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Previous experience in assisted living, group homes, and school settings is valued

Salary:
Wages are paid on an annual salary basis
Salary range is $80,000 to $100,000
Compensation is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
Schedule:
This position involves full-time salaried employment.
Your flexibility in your work hour availability is required.
Manager coverage is shared with a second manager to support work-life balance.
When care team services become stable, the ability to work from home for some hours will be considered.
There may be opportunity for additional on-call care shifts for additional income.
