Nurse Clinician, Neurology ClinicBC Children\xe2\x80\x99s HospitalVancouver, BCReporting to the Program Manager and in collaboration with the Medical Director of Neurology, the Nurse Clinician ensures the delivery of nursing practice activities such as patient assessment, nursing staff and patient/family education, and health promotion activities for children and adolescents with neurological disorders and is responsible for assigning direct care responsibilities to other staff in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures and philosophy at British Columbia Children\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital and CRNBC. The Nurse Clinician is the key health care professional in advocating for and maintaining optimal physical and psychosocial health of this patient population with accountability for development, monitoring, and effectiveness of patient services provided.What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Oversees the delivery of care for the neurology patient population by coordinating patient care delivery, ensuring provision of direct patient care for patients, making adjustments in patient assignments/schedules with accountability for follow-up and patient outcomes.
  • Initiates and coordinates assessment and post assessment referrals; responds to patient, family, and health care member\xe2\x80\x99s enquiries; and liaises with other support and diagnostic health services in coordinating patient referrals.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff, medical staff, health care disciplines, and community agencies to plan patient care in the clinic and community setting.
  • Promotes and implements teaching for patients, families, and other care team members regarding the various neurological disorders, complications, and modes of management as well as health maintenance and health promotion.
  • Acts as clinical nursing resource in identifying and providing education for patients, families, nursing staff, health care professionals, community agencies/services, and schools, providing information based on specialized theory and practice.
What you bringQualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years recent related clinical nursing experience including ambulatory care experience and/or community health care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • CPR \xe2\x80\x93 basic level 1
Skills & Knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and their families.
  • Ability to make decisions in an independent manner in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to effectively teach.
  • Knowledge of critical perspectives and social justice frameworks such as Trauma Informed Care
  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents \xe2\x80\x93 including Truth & Reconciliation Commission\xe2\x80\x99s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study \xe2\x80\x93 and how they intersect across the health care system.
