JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a multidisciplinary team member, the incumbent provides nursing care for patients receiving care on the secure medical unit through the administration and implementation of medical investigation and therapeutic programs through the application of knowledge of general nursing, physical health, and psycho-social well-being; provides organization, direction, supervision and collaboration in the planning and implementation of nursing best practices.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
  • Knowledge of established practices and procedures of professional nursing care.
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the nursing field.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Initiative, good judgment and reliability along with advocacy and assertiveness skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to teach nursing practices and other relevant clinical skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement nursing care/treatment/discharge plans.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Our Requirements:
  • The successful candidate is required to have a Diploma/Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • A minimum of (1) one year direct Mental Health nursing experience preferably in Acute Care or Community Mental Health setting
  • Currently registered or able to be licensed with Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA) as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Currently registered or be able to obtain a certificate to practice as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with yukon.ca
  • Have current and valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience in mental health would be considered an asset.
Other Skills and Abilities

- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check (must be within 12 months)

- Proof of Covid Vaccinations

Have or willing to obtain the following: WHMIS, N95 mask fitted, TB Test
