The successful candidate must have two (2) full-time equivalent years of experience (3000 hours) in the Emergency Department and/or ICU - OR - three (3) full-time equivalent years of experience (4500 hours) in Med/Surg and will provide high-quality community health relief support and exceptional nursing care to clients residing in the Nunavut Indigenous Communities. The experienced Northern Nurse must adhere to the policies and procedures under the direction of the Government of Nunavut.

We have exciting opportunities for Community Health Nurse (CHN) positions in Nunavut:

Community Health Nurse (CHN): CHNs provide primary and emergency care to all residents in a health center clinic setting with urgent/non\xe2\x80\x90urgent walk\xe2\x80\x90ins.

Average assignment durations vary from 4 to 6 weeks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with physicians/Nurse Practitioners and the Health Center Supervisor of Health Programs, the Northern Nurse will work within an expanded scope of practice providing healthcare services to pediatric, adolescent, and adult clients/patients for trauma and primary care, including pre-natal, delivery of newborns, treating minor acute illnesses and injuries, and conducting health program clinics
  • Apply the nursing process utilizing the skills of observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling, treatment, and health teaching according to the established care plan. The interdisciplinary team will ensure that, on an ongoing basis, the emotional, spiritual, physical comfort and safety of clients/patients are met to the greatest possible extent within the extended scope of practice.
  • Strong assessment skills and proven ability to effectively communicate to clients/patients and family is required along with exceptional interpersonal skills, and an ability to handle difficult situations in an objective consistent format.
  • Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures such as:

  • continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company\'s Quality Management System
  • proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties.

Qualifications

Education & Nursing License Requirements

\xc2\xb7 Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, and

\xc2\xb7 Have or obtain a nursing license through the Registered Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANTNU) or a current registration and licensing as a Registered Nurse in Nunavut.

Experience

The successful candidate must have within the past five (5) years either:
  • one (1) year of recent experience (total 1500 hours) working in isolate, semi-isolated or remote communities or
  • two (2) years of experience (total 3000 hours) performing acute/critical care nursing activities in the Emergency Department (ED) and/or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Acute Care setting (ie. Urgent Care Clinic) or
  • three (3) years of experience (total 4500 hours) performing nursing activities in a Med Surg setting
Other Skills and Abilities
** All courses and qualifications will be reviewed/discussed at time of interview
  • Current and valid BLS
  • ACLS, ITLS or TNCC an asset
  • Proof of COVID Vaccinations
  • Nunavut Immunization Certification Course
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check (must be within 12 months)
  • Must have valid Canadian driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
