The North Star Parent Navigation program is a strength-based program that focuses on building social connections and natural network supports amongst Indigenous parents. It is a tiered program (universal, targeted and intensive) with a focus on connecting families to the supports and services that meet their needs.
The North Star Parent Navigator will plan and deliver the Tsaami Piik Program to purposefully greet and welcome families into our Family Resource Network - Indigenous Hub programs and services, provide individual support for parents and caregivers that require more intensive one-on-one services, and the coordination of the Parent Education Program that focuses on Triple P Positive Parenting and Traditional Parenting.
Through an Indigenous, strength-based lens, the North Star Parent Navigator will assist our parents to develop natural networks of support and increase their skills and capacity to navigate programs and services that are specific to their success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tsaami Piik (Welcoming Program) - Universal Program
Provide an intake and welcoming process to purposefully welcome families referred through the Indigenous HUB process.
Facilitate the implementation of the Family Resource Network Communication Plan, which will include a newsletter, the use of social media, etc.
Promote the Parent Education Program among all families.
Coordinate a Parent Education Program - Targeted Program
In collaboration with the Indigenous HUB coordinator, develop a yearly Parent Education Program during the school year and throughout the summer months.
o The programs will include: Triple P Seminars, Triple P Group, Traditional Parenting, Skills Development Workshops, Blackfoot Language and Cultural Teachings, etc.
Identify and invite resource people and educators to deliver the education sessions and workshops.
Recruit families to participate in classes and workshops.
Participate in intake and screening of families as directed by Indigenous HUB coordinator.
Facilitate and coordinate parenting classes and workshops.
Participate in monitoring and evaluation and reporting activities, such as:
o Complete quarterly/semi-annual reporting, as required by funders
o Maintaining documentation about the activities and attendance
o Prepare monthly nominals.
o Administer occasional surveys
Provide One-on-one Interventions and Supports - Intensive Program
Identify, offer formal screening and intake of families requiring one-on-one support
Provide case management services to these families, by offering one or more of the following services:
o Referral to Opokaa'sin Parent Education Program
o Navigation and referral to the Family Resource Network Spokes and other community services
o Triple P Primary Care parents and families requiring intensive support
Participate in monitoring and evaluation and reporting activities, such as:
o Develop and maintain client files
o Prepare monthly nominals and administer occasional surveys
Other Responsibilities
Be familiar with and abide by policies set forth by the agency
Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
Participate in professional development activities as assigned.
In partnership with the Indigenous HUB Coordinator,
o Promote programs and services to community.
o To establish and maintain working relationships with other community agencies
o To coordinate services with existing services Opokaa'sin provider
REPORTING LINE:
Accountable to the Indigenous HUB Coordinator
WAGE RANGE:
$23.00-$28.00/hour, based on education and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A University or College Diploma, preferably in Social Work, Psychology and/or Human Services.
Provide Child Welfare/Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector, 6 months current
Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle, travel may be required
Experience working with Indigenous children, families and youth
Excellent communications skills, verbal and written
Highly organized, effective time management, and excellent inter-personal relation skills
Facilitation, computer skills an asset
Flexible working hours, may require some evenings and weekends.
