The Opportunity
The Newcomer Support Worker ensures that newcomer clients of all backgrounds are equipped with the necessary information and support to engage with the community systems in New Brunswick, including but not limited to health care, government programs, and support. This position also ensures that clients with low English skills can access specialized healthcare beyond the scope of what is effectively provided by Tele Care or other government services. Additionally, the incumbent ensures that casual/contracted interpreters and community guides are scheduled to support clients at external appointments. This position works collaboratively with the Settlement Counsellor Team Lead, Youth Support Team, casual interpreters, and volunteers to meet client needs and support the settlement team as needed. The role also involves making follow-up phone calls to clients and translating short written documents from time to time.
