POSITION SUMMARY

The Network Systems Analyst is primarily responsible for the deployment of network, telecommunications, and IT infrastructure based projects. Operational duties include troubleshooting County. Lower Tier, and external partner network issues related to services the County is hosting and SCAN network connectivity. Assisting the Network Operations Technologist in various tickets will be required as directed by the Manager, Infrastructure and Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

1. Deploy and implement network and IT infrastructure technologies, and provide technical leadership in the rollout of Network based projects. 2. Investigate and recommend new network system technologies, including operating systems, software and hardware enhancements. 3. Design and implement performance optimized network infrastructure systems based on processor, Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration, memory, and network interfaces. 4. Monitor virus, spam, and intrusion protection systems to ensure that network security systems are not compromised. 5. Install and configure corporate e-mail and web servers along with security parameters 6. Maintain and update internal/external Firewall configurations. 7. Maintain network infrastructure components including routers, switches, security appliances, servers, USP\xe2\x80\x99s and PBX\xe2\x80\x99s. 8. Develop computer programs and scripts to automate processes, replication, and back-up systems. 9. Support network performance and availability by monitoring performance managementsystems. 10. Support server room and LAN closet infrastructure, and assist in co-ordination of construction and cabling implementations. 11. Support the corporate IP based telephone systems and respond to major system failures, call centre support, programming of end user phone functions, voice mail and interactive voice response, telephone moves/adds/changes. Support smartphones and all other County telephony needs including troubleshooting and liaison with vendors. 12. Administer Windows updates and system patches for servers and workstations. 13. Monitor and administer corporate back-up systems. 14. Maintain administrative manuals, logs, and documentation for detailed procedures and device configurations. 15. Communicate with other IT staff and end users regarding system outages and implications for planned maintenance activities. 16. Undertake ongoing professional developmentto keep abreast of industry standards and emerging network technologies. 17. Provide after-hours on call support for critical network failures and major upgrades to be scheduled outside of regular working hours. 18. Perform other duties as assigned. 19. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. 20. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedomof Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

  • Understanding of network and communications principles, achieved through a three (3) year college diploma in InformationTechnology or a related discipline plus CCNA.
  • Knowledge of Linux, and Microsoft Windows Server environments including Active Directory.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills to independently diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to an effective solution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users who have varying levels of computer understanding. Ability to translate complicated technical language into layperson terms for training purposes.
  • Ability to work effectively with constant interruptions; ability to work simultaneously on several projects independently and to use good judgment in determining priorities.
  • Technical writing skills required to document systems procedures and prepare reports.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum four (4) years previous experience supporting a multi-site LAN / WAN infrastructure, TCP/IP protocol management, and voice / data applications in addition to two (2) years of general experience in an information technology hardware / software support role.
  • Experience must include two (2) years Cisco router and switch configuration experience, and two (2) years of CheckPoint Firewall configuration experience or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with local government applications and computer infrastructure would be an asset.

  • Visual and mental effort required whenprogramming new hardware, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular office environment.
  • Required to participate in the on call rotation.
