Job Description

The Network Specialist is accountable for contributing to the technical design, implementation of IP network infrastructure, and collaborating on supporting day-to-day operation of the network infrastructure and its services.



This is a full-time, permanent position that reports to CANARIE's Director, Network Engineering.

Key Responsibilities




Operating the CANARIE Network with a focus on responsiveness and reliability Contributing to all facets of network architecture and services development Improving the network reporting mechanisms and user support systems to increase operational efficiency Drafting and reviewing designs for technical soundness, and making key infrastructure decisions Developing and maintaining documentation, including requirements, and specifications Collaborating with network architects, software developers, and security professionals Collaborating with partners nationally and internationally, Contributing to deployment and adoption of advanced network services Collaborating with the team in tracking network reliability, analyzing data and generate reporting On a rotation basis, providing 24 x 7 on call support for the CANARIE network Travel may occasionally be required Other related duties and responsibilities, as required ###

What You Bring

Education and Experience




A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a suitable combination of education and experience A minimum of 5 years of relevant progressive experience in designing, configurating and operating routed infrastructure A minimum of 5 years of experience with building and running large scale, high-available and fault-tolerant network infrastructure Experience with carriers and vendors, facilitating service delivery and equipment installation Experience leveraging scripts to maintain infrastructure (i.e. bash, Python) Experience with datacenter and telecom sites is desirable Experience with optical network technologies, such as optical coherent technology, Wavelength Division Multiplexer is desirable Experience with Kubernetes is desirable

Technical Proficiencies




Advanced knowledge of IPv4/6, MPLS, Segment Routing and BGP Familiarity of the Nokia SROS network operating system Operational experience in Linux OS: Management and maintenance Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite ###
