Under the limited supervision of the Manager, Infrastructure, the Network Services Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, operation, and security of network services, including file services, printing services, and backup services. The Network Services Coordinator also provides technical leadership to Okanagan College faculty and staff on related matters and performs other related duties as required.
Functions and Duties
1. Responds to user requests related to mail services, file services, printing services, and backup services. This includes but is not limited to:
? Requests to create, delete, or modify user accounts.
? Requests to restore user files.
? Requests for information related to the use of services.
2. Manages all Okanagan College data centres, including planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and operating data centre infrastructure, Windows servers, and e-mail services.
3. Researches and evaluates emerging technologies and standards related to file and print services, backup services, and other network services. Maintains technical currency with related security standards and developments.
4. Responsible for network and server security within the data centres in accordance with Okanagan College security policy. Advises the Manager, Networks and Telecommunications on matters related to data centre security. Works to ensure that information is accessible only to those authorized to have access.
5. Manages all Okanagan College network services, including planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and operating services. Works with the Desktop Coordinator to integrate network services into desktop and laptop configurations.
6. Responsible for the security of network services in accordance with Okanagan College security policy. Advises the Manager, Infrastructure on matters related to the security of network services. Works to ensure that information is only available to those authorized to have access.
7. Plans and schedules upgrades to server hardware, server operating systems, and network services applications in cooperation with IT Services staff and other Okanagan College faculty and staff.
8. Responsible for strategic planning for all Okanagan College file services, printing services and backup services, including recommending appropriate hardware and software.
9. Participates in Division wide planning of information technology services and assists the Manager, Infrastructure in the formulation of Network budgets.
10. Responsible for developing and implementing anti-virus policy for network services. Works with the Desktop Coordinator to develop and implement anti-virus policy for desktops and laptops.
11. Provides technical leadership and training to IT Services staff and other Okanagan College faculty and staff on issues related to network services.
12. Monitors and manages network services in order to ensure network services effectiveness.
13. Maintains detailed records of the configuration of server hardware, server operating systems and network services applications.
14. Supervises auxiliary employees and co-op work term students.
15. Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
Graduation from a related four year degree program or equivalent. Microsoft MCSE or equivalent certification is required. Security certifications would be an asset. Over 6 years and up to and including 8 years of progressive directly related experience. PREFERRED: Linux system management skills would be an asset as would wired and wireless network management skills.
