This placement opportunity is for permanent position in Project Enablement - Operating Engineering, within System Operations Support.
General Accountabilities:

  • Be part of a team and perform assigned responsibilities,
  • Provide Engineering support to the development of operating policies, standards, processes, practices, and procedures,
  • Support the development and issuance of operating documentation with internal and external stakeholders,
  • Manage Hydro One\xe2\x80\x99s transmission and distribution assets to fulfill operating and commercial accountabilities in all time frames,
  • Develop strong working relationships with other line of business, where engineering support in operational issues has cross functional accountabilities,
  • Participate on working teams to resolve operational issues with other lines of business,
  • Provide operations support to the various ISOC/OGCC departments as well as to other interfacing Line of Business at Trinity (Asset Management, Planning, Engineering, Project Management, etc.),
  • Produce Facility Sketches and determine Operating designations of transmission and distribution assets for both transmission/distribution projects,
  • Review and provide feedback on new or revised policies, standards, processes, and procedures from non-operating sources from an ISOC/OGCC operability perspective,
  • Adhere to corporate policies and procedures as required,
  • Assist in other duties of the ISOC/OGCC as workload and priorities dictate.
Selection Criteria - Essential Competencies:
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, able to keep longer term projects and accountabilities on track including timely report generation, timely agenda and minutes preparation for meetings,
  • Ability to work in a team environment and make significant contributions to the team,
  • Clear and concise communication skills both verbal and written on topics with moderate depth and complexity,
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with both internal and external customers,
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision and comfortable with initiating independent actions,
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical power systems as related to operating different components of transmission and distribution systems in an interconnected grid,
  • Experience using Hydro One Network Management System (NMS) and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) for conducting power flow studies, contingency analysis, and effectively retrieving required information.
  • Proficient using power system analysis tools like PSSE, NMS and DMS, for conducting power flow and short circuit studies, reliability, and contingency analysis,
  • In-depth understanding of power transformers and transmission/distribution lines thermal ratings criteria used in Hydro One,
  • Very good understanding of equipment protection, control, and telecom. system and special protection schemes (RAS) used in Hydro One system,
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operating instructions/documents e.g., Network Management Instructions, Facility Description Document, Design Description Document.
  • Proficient using ACAD computer-aided design software to create precise 2D electric drawings,
  • Very proficient using Hydro One information system tools such as SAP, PCMIS, PQ View, and CRIS
  • Establish and implement equipment operating settings including auto-recloser settings, automatic voltage regulation settings, Programmable Synch-check relay settings, etc.
  • Resolve technical/operating issues such as protection, control, communication, PQ, and system security issues arising during real time operation.
  • Investigate operating/technical experiences to understand disturbance analysis, power quality and power system operation.
  • Clear understanding of Distributed Energy Resources (DER), distributed energy resources management system (DERMS), BESS, EV, and Distributed Generation connection process to the Tx / Dx grid, and the Customer/Connection Impact Assessment.
  • Interface with Asset Management, Planning, Project Management, Engineering & other Lines of Business and provide input on operating topics during planning and design phases of projects to ensure operating issues are addressed,
  • Interface with the IESO on matters related to operating criteria, operating system limits, equipment constraints/limitations and to resolve technical issues related to safe and reliable operation of the interconnected system and operation of Ontario Electricity market,
  • Mentor new engineering grads in Project Enablement Section,
  • Licensed by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • For this position a university degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, applied sciences or equivalent is considered necessary,
  • It is expected that to qualify for this position 6 to 8 years of experience in power system engineering, preferably in system operation , planning, or protection and control would be required.
