General Accountability



Assists in the logical design and physical implementation of all network, data communications and telecommunications services. Working collaboratively with staff in other sections, this position must deliver secured, timely, standards-compliant, objective-based and quality-driven technology solutions that meet all established objectives and service level agreements. The position is required to support customers at various sites, manage multiple projects, and meet changing work demands in a competent and professional manner. Additionally, the position assists in data and telecommunications network planning, technical documentation, resource assessment, and technology evaluations as required.

Key Job Functions


  • Provides expertise required for the day-to-day and routine, troubleshooting and maintenance of following areas: Commission-wide and site specific network services; LAN/WAN design and administration; centralized and distributed network management; network-centric applications; multi-tiered client/server computing; global internetworking services; micro-segmentation; and integration of network technology in a widely dispersed and remotely managed desktop environment.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and optimizes all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensures minimal network downtime.
  • Works collaboratively with staff in other I.T. sections and vendors/partners, you must deliver secured, timely, standards-compliant, objective-based and quality-driven technology solutions that meet all established objectives and service level agreements. supporting customers at various sites, effectively prioritize and meet changing work demands in a competent and professional manner.
  • Reviews network operational inefficiencies, systemic problems, researching and recommending new technology, and acts as the Sr. Network Analyst as needed.
  • Assists in data and telecommunications network planning, resource assessment, and technology evaluations as required by the Manager - Network Services.
  • This position will be required to provide off hours on call support.
  • This position will be required to work off hours and weekends by adjusting regular scheduled work hours and off days to accommodate scheduled work as required
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

Education and Experience


  • These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a University degree or technical diploma in a relevant discipline (Electrical/Electronic/Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration with speciality in Information Systems and Technology), equivalent directly related experience working in a multi-platform, multiple-protocol network environment.
  • Requires sound knowledge and practical experience related to all major aspects of network and telecommunications, including local and wide-area networks.
  • Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of network hardware and software.
  • Must have the ability to responsibly plan and implement immediate and long?term technology solutions.
  • Must possess a track record of successfully solving technical problems for business users and non-technical operators, and working under high service demands and severe time constraints.
  • Multiple years working experience with Extreme (Avaya) network system.
  • Training and experience in IT project management is preferable.
  • Must have a valid Province of Ontario Class ?G? Driver?s licence.


Additional Requirements


  • Experience and knowledge with Cisco Network Systems and Palo Alto Firewalls is an asset.
  • Certification in network specialties such as a CCIE is considered an asset, and you must demonstrate a propensity and commitment to continuous professional education.
