The opportunity: The University of Manitoba is looking for a NCTR Communications Coordinator. This position will be responsible for the planning and implementation of social media posts and digital strategy of the NCTR to fulfill the NCTR\xe2\x80\x99s national mandate. The NCTR Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for the content and layout for the external quarterly newsletter, written content for a monthly blog for all staff from the Executive Director, and story ideas/submissions into UM Today. Additionally, this position will be responsible for updates and upkeep to the NCTR website. The qualifications and experience we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline required.
  • Diploma in Creative Communications, Digital Media Management, or related field essential.
  • Three years of directly related administrative experience is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of copywriting (either in-house or agency) experience required.
  • Experience working with web Content Management Systems required (Drupal, SharePoint Online, WordPress, etc.).
  • Knowledge of digital processes, techniques and technologies is required.
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Premiere Pro, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud, with a focus on Photoshop required.
  • Experience with a range of social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and various social media management apps and analytics tools required.
  • Experience using mobile tools, DSLR and mirrorless cameras, external microphones, and lighting kits required.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and SEO is required.
  • Experience with inclusive and accessible design practices is an asset.
  • Knowledge of both print and digital processes, techniques and technologies is an asset.
  • Experience coordinating concurrent projects and juggling multiple priorities is an asset.
  • Experience working with project management and time tracking systems is an asset.
  • Proven experience with Indigenous organizations, survivors, elders, and diverse communities is essential.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures is essential.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills required.
  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation and listening skills required.
  • Proven ability to communicate in written and verbal form required.
  • Outstanding attention to detail is required.
  • Proficiency with digital technology including mobile platforms required.
  • Proficiency with software such as Adobe Creative Suite, online work management software and web content management systems required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 required.
  • Proficient with Photo-editing software required.
  • Must show strong storytelling ability through visuals.
  • Must have a strong ability to understand and absorb the Centre\'s brand and strategy to ensure relevant and effective content is created.
  • Ability to measure and analyze the performance of content across multiple channels with the goal of improving future content choices required.
  • Ability to produce relevant photography, videography and graphics that are consistent with brand and formatted to our social and web platforms required.
  • Ability to copywrite a wide range of content types from engaging social media captions, to longer-form news posts, to video scripts required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask required.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and work effectively with multiple stakeholder required.
  • May be required to travel nationally to support conferences and events for a/v support and to digitally capture content.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required to meet the national mandate; must be available to work overtime.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Cultural sensitivity; open-mindedness, flexibility
  • Must have worked with Indigenous people, organizations, government, Survivors.
  • Must have knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Must be available to work overtime.
  • Knowledge of French or Indigenous language(s) would be an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license is required.
