Description

The Navigator provides crisis and long-term support for community-based victims and survivors of human trafficking in Canada of all genders (by phone, digital service, online learning, and in person support) to access support, referrals, programming, rehabilitation opportunities, education, employment, and second stage housing subsidies

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Case Management (70%):

\xc2\xb7 Develop case plans, utilize case management tools, human trafficking specific interventions, report case notes, and develop strategy for clients within caseload, providing case management, case coordination, and episodic/crisis/referral only care for survivors across Canada.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborate and support interventions, safety plans, safe exits, and access to emergency and immigration services for program participants.

\xc2\xb7 Provide accompaniment by vehicle, ferry, plane, or public forms of transit for program participants where required in both emergent & non-emergent circumstances.

\xc2\xb7 Identify & complete paperwork for second stage housing subsidy applicants, provide home visits and in-home training for program participants modelling independent living skills & conducting safety audits.

\xc2\xb7 Utilize best practices in professional collaboration to work with partners across Canada but not limited to law enforcement, children\'s aid, Indigenous organizations, primary and emergent healthcare.

\xc2\xb7 Support relevant volunteers and co-workers in implementing programming across multiple program sites, support survivor participants to engage & provide input to program design.

\xc2\xb7 Provide consultation support to community agencies and refer to Illuminate training opportunities.

\xc2\xb7 Assess client suitability to internal and external programs and agencies as required.

Ensure client supervision and safety in designated programs and comply with relevant program Policies and Procedures.

2. General Program Support (30%):

\xc2\xb7 Contribute and provide recommendations on the development of new and existing Anti-Human Trafficking Programs and projects as per funding requirements. Generate reports, assist with statistics collection, and measure tangible outcomes.

\xc2\xb7 Utilize knowledge of issues pertaining to human trafficking & exploitation, rehabilitation, immigration, de-colonizing praxis, fine arts, lived experience inclusion, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, education, internal policies, and procedures to contribute to the development of program materials and partnerships.

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to the development of administrative frameworks and best practices for program delivery, including new and innovative approaches to programming and community involvement, creative approaches to crisis intervention and cross industry collaboration.

\xc2\xb7 Ensure that program procedures are maintained in own work and when providing recommendations to others, support the Program Manager in developing relevant policies and present to the Leadership team, contribute to drafting of various learning guides and facilitator materials, where required.

\xc2\xb7 Provide coordination and administrative assistance in the delivery of designated programs, follow outcomes matrixes to attain reportable/significant outcomes, complete monthly reports, and end of project reports.

\xc2\xb7 Seek community donations and in-kind support for minor programming items, develop relationships with external stakeholders, participate in community-based events & represent organization within the scope of their duties as per Director\'s request.

\xc2\xb7 Assist Management team in establishing meaningful connections with community partners, support and participate in stakeholder evaluations and focus groups, attend offsite meetings with stakeholders as required including sitting as active members on community committees.

\xc2\xb7 Ascertain and provide participants with referral services within the community and/or social services resources.

\xc2\xb7 Participate in training, meetings, case management development, administrative system orientations, as required.

\xc2\xb7 Participate in test-run programming and utilize provided learning lab techniques in order to contribute to refining of the project concepts, materials, and delivery.

\xc2\xb7 Maintain appropriate records and statistics, ensures that all required documentation is accurate and complete.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible to model positive behaviours & boundaries to clients and contribute to the mission and goals of the Salvation Army Illuminate.

\xc2\xb7 Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

\xc2\xb7 Reports directly to Manager, Anti-Human Trafficking Programs.

\xc2\xb7 This role has no formal direct reports but is expected to provide guidance, coordination, and support to staff on occasion in relation to casework and/or specific cases.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

\xc2\xb7 This position does not process any financial transactions and has no budget responsibilities but uses or maintains organization assets (e.g., machinery, equipment, vehicles, and computers) in accordance with established guidelines.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains and updates confidential client files and reports.

\xc2\xb7 Minor material responsibility. Responsible for the safekeeping of materials and equipment for own use (office supplies and equipment).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working environment is typically in the office but would include some weekly travel (up to 10% of time).
  • Required to work in a stressful environment dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems and contribute to the development of new and innovative content.
  • Direct program activities may require a moderate level of physical ability- walking, standing, lifting up to 20 pounds - to effectively carry out the duties of the position.
  • Operate within a rotating on call schedule for emergencies within team for program participants and community partners.
\xc2\xb7 Provide home visits and in-home training.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a relevant field
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field will be considered as a strong asset.
Experience:
  • At least two years of recent, relevant experience in the administration, development, and research programs relating to women, domestic violence and abuse, substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness issues is required for this position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge (e.g., coursework) of and/or experience with theory, principles, and practices specifically in the human services field, case management, administrative systems, employment, human trafficking & exploitation, de-colonizing praxis, fine arts, lived experience inclusion, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, and internal policies and procedures to develop program materials, curriculum, and partnerships is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver\'s License.
OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry.
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program.
HOURS:

TERMS: Temporary, Full-Time (35hrs/week)

Contract (December, 2023 to March 31st 2024) with the possibility of extension.

DAYS & TIME: Wednesday to Sunday; 12:00p.m. - 7:30p.m.
