Primary Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Museum's Marketing and Events Officer and be trained in general museum operations and safety procedures, orientation to exhibits and visitor experience activities. The Museum Community Events Assistant will work on promotional and community event communications involving on-site and online activities (e.g., social media, photography/video and graphic design.) Written and oral communications will be key to accurately research and build content on current museum exhibits, museum ship CSS •Acadia•, and seasonal activities and community initiatives.





They will assist in raising the online profile of the museum in various web and digital projects; contribute using resourceful, creative, and innovative methods to market the busy summer tourist season of museum programs and activities. They will develop online museum experiences, support summer events, and assist in future museum event plans.


Qualifications and Experience

The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution, having preferably completed at least two years of study. Must be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) on-line candidate inventory (https://young-canada-works.canada.ca) and meet the eligibility criteria of the program. Students enrolled in tourism, marketing, digital arts, public relations, community development, and other related fields are preferable.





Good communication and organizational skills are required. Computer proficiency with common software and web search is required. Interpersonal and problem-solving skills are needed and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with a variety of community partners and members of the public.


The candidate should demonstrate how they can think and solve problems creatively as situations arise to take initiative on promotional events and programming. Additional assets in work or volunteer experience in developing social media museum projects (FaceBook, Instagram, and X/Twitter) and producing digital material using video, photography and graphic design are beneficial.





Candidates must also be organized, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Strong assets would include previous experience with cultural and arts event projects, development and presentation skills, work in a similar setting with the heritage, arts or cultural field. Tourism, marketing, public relations, and promotions experience are strong assets. Other assets would also include fluency in another second language.


Given the nature of our museum operations, the candidate must be flexible when it comes to their schedule. This opportunity involves indoor/outdoor work, office and computer duties, visitor interaction and working in museum exhibit spaces, and occasional heavy lifting for event set-up during public and non-public museum hours.


Working Conditions

Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. This opportunity will be 35 hours a week.



Main Areas of work: Museum Galleries, the museum's anchor yard and courtyard, office spaces, museum ship CSS •Acadia.• Projects with the Marketing and Events Officer, and programs with Visitor Experience staff.

Pay Grade: HOURLY


Salary Range: $18.00 Hourly
